Objectives

The project S.E.N.S.E. (Sustainability, Empowerment, Networking, Skills, Education) aims to enhance the skills of younger generations of youth workers in collective leadership, facilitation, and group dynamics. It seeks to empower them to make a greater impact in the field of sustainability, strengthen connections among youth workers in ecovillages and other sustainable initiatives, and promote the adoption of innovative approaches and frameworks. The project, initiated by members of the 'Yes to Sustainability' network, is dedicated to advancing the network's mission of empowering young people to develop impactful projects and connect their peers with ecovillages and other sustainable initiatives. It focuses on equipping youth workers and leaders with the tools and skills needed to effectively engage young people on critical topics such as sustainability, inclusion, and climate change, drawing upon the rich knowledge and expertise of European ecovillages. Ecovillages are intentional or traditional communities designed to regenerate social and natural environments, integrating the four dimensions of sustainability—ecology, economy, society, and culture—into a holistic model. These communities serve as training hubs where young people engage in informal and non-formal educational activities, learning to live cohesively, inclusively, and sustainably. The project has been conceived with the purpose of strengthening the skills of youth workers in collective leadership, facilitation, and group processes. It encourages collaboration among ecovillages, experienced youth organizations, Erasmus+ newcomers. The project equips participants with the tools and understanding needed to address global challenges like climate change, while supporting young people as peer leaders and connecting them with mentors trained in youth work. The main objectives of the project are: to provide youth workers and youth leaders with skills, knowledge and tools to work on sustainability and climate action topics using a holistic approach and including young people with fewer opportunities; to provide youth workers and youth leaders with leadership and facilitation skills that would allow them to create safe spaces for young people to reconnect, share their worries about the future and the planet and transform them into active participation; to increase the capacity of European ecovillages to offer young people an inspiring learning environment about inclusion and sustainability, supporting them to get more empowered and to become active citizens. On a broader scale, the project aims to respond to the global crisis by promoting a transition towards a sustainable and inclusive society, providing young people with a framework to face the challenges of global society, to reflect on their personal choices and to align them more with their values and the planet’s needs. The crises we are facing, and not only the ecological one, require adequate skills and competences to address them in a way which is beneficial for the whole society, and the partnership behind this project considers a wise, inclusive, collective leadership, together with clear models for facilitating group processes, crucial skills to influence the future of our community in a positive way. Young people need to take action and to enhance their capacity of leading the change, demanding actions and leading other young people to take responsibility and step in their power.
