Objectives

The Development Center for Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families Association (EBAGEM) was founded in 2014 in Mersin as a non-governmental organization aiming to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families, support their social participation, and conduct rights-based advocacy activities. EBAGEM leads numerous national and international projects focused on integrating disadvantaged individuals into society, involving young people in social responsibility projects, and strengthening civil society dialogue. The association aims to empower individuals with disabilities through arts, sports, and cultural activities while also working with young people, women, and migrant individuals with disabilities. EBAGEM operates in four main areas. Social activities include organizing theater, cinema, concerts, and picnic events to facilitate the social participation of individuals with disabilities and their families. Additionally, sports and social activities are organized for disabled refugees. Awareness programs involve informative seminars on rights, social support, and success stories for individuals with disabilities and their families. In the field of youth work, EBAGEM collaborates with Mersin University and other local institutions to engage young volunteers in social responsibility projects and foster international collaborations through Erasmus+ projects. Lastly, to strengthen civil society dialogue, EBAGEM partners with local governments and disability-focused NGOs to work on accessibility, social rights, and education policies. EBAGEM is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families, fostering social responsibility among young people, and strengthening civil society dialogue. Through its projects across Europe, the organization contributes to building an inclusive society and supports individuals with disabilities in becoming more active in education, employment, arts, and sports. The main goal of our project is to support 24 disadvantaged young people from Spain, North Macedonia, Hungary, and Turkey, including individuals with disabilities, those with economic or geographical disadvantages, forced migrants, and individuals experiencing depression or anxiety. The project aims to enhance their social participation and psychological resilience through art and creative drama methods. Scientific research has confirmed that art has a deep and positive impact on human psychology. Beyond being a tool for emotional expression, art influences mental well-being by improving communication skills, increasing social participation, boosting self-esteem and confidence, reducing stress and anxiety, and enhancing problem-solving and decision-making abilities. The project has several specific objectives. It aims to help young people develop their communication skills, self-esteem, and empathy through creative drama workshops and stage performances. Additionally, it encourages them to use drama techniques to manage stress and adapt to traumatic experiences. Another goal is to enable participants to explore and develop their artistic and creative skills, culminating in a public musical performance. The project also seeks to raise social awareness by helping young people understand societal issues and the challenges faced by disadvantaged youth, fostering a deeper sense of social responsibility. Furthermore, it promotes international collaboration by bringing together young people from different countries, encouraging cultural exchange and cooperation. Over the course of the 10-month project, we will conduct activities aimed at helping young people recognize and address their inner struggles, such as introversion, low self-confidence, depression, stress management difficulties, and feelings of exclusion. While these challenges are common among youth, the project aims to equip them with the skills to overcome these difficulties and help them realize their potential as individuals who can create positive change in their communities. By utilizing the transformative and unifying power of art, we will teach participants practical methods to apply personal well-being strategies in their daily lives. Through art and creative drama, we will support them in developing emotional expression skills, improving self-awareness, and using these abilities in real-life situations. As a result, young people will not only enhance their own lives but also become active agents of change within their communities, contributing to a more inclusive and understanding society. By structuring activities to efficiently address the unique needs of each participant, we aim to ensure the effective progress of the project, ultimately fostering a deeper and long-term impact on all individuals involved.
