We conducted an assessment of the mental health and well-being levels of young people in our school and in the countries where our project partners are located. Through interviews with our students and observations of our teachers, we realized that young people in the 14-17 age group face various challenges such as intense academic pressure, anxiety about the future and the struggle to exist in the digital world. Young people in this age group are struggling with expectations of academic success, pressures from their families and society, the impact of social media, and the challenges of resocialization after the pandemic. We have observed an increase in symptoms of depression and anxiety among young people, with some struggling to express themselves, while others are withdrawn and unwilling to share their emotional states. Students, especially those interested in the arts, report that artistic activities are an important tool for coping with stress and expressing themselves, but for many students, limited access to the arts makes it impossible to take advantage of these opportunities. In addition, according to feedback from our partners from different countries, there is a lack of spaces for young people to express themselves through the arts. A study conducted at a partner school in Romania found that a large number of students have difficulty expressing themselves verbally and need alternative forms of expression. Our partners in Poland shared that young people's participation in creative activities is low due to intense academic pressure. In Spain, a study on the therapeutic effects of the arts showed that young people who engage in artistic activities have higher levels of self-confidence.In Portugal, young people's access to the creative arts is limited due to economic and geographical conditions, so more investment in artistic activities is needed. By bringing together young people from different countries, we aim to enable them to experience the unifying and healing power of art. Art is an effective tool that facilitates the expression of emotions, helps individuals get to know themselves and copes with stress. Our project aims to provide a space where young people can express themselves freely, develop their creativity and use art as a means of communication. At the same time, we aim to support young people's emotional well-being by developing their artistic expression skills and encourage them to gain empathy through cultural interaction. Participants will contribute to their individual development through creative workshops and group work, while strengthening their social skills through a common language of art. By providing a safe environment for young people to express themselves through art, this project will make them feel that they are not alone and give them new tools to cope with the challenges they will face. Through the power of art to transcend borders, they will have the opportunity to create their own stories and share their feelings to develop a common understanding. The Erasmus coordinatorship, management and guidance services at our school have done extensive work to identify the needs of our students and design this project in the most effective way. The main needs and objectives of our project, based on the analysis and feedback from our partners: Needs -The need to reduce the negative impact of stressors such as academic pressure, future anxiety and social media influence on mental health Supporting young people who lack self-expression skills and are unable to express their emotions in healthy ways -Limitations in access to artistic activities, inability to use art as a means of therapy and expression, especially in disadvantaged areas -Lack of international interaction, limited opportunities for young people from different cultures to come together to learn from each other and develop empathy Lack of self-confidence and social isolation, young people not feeling comfortable in groups and factors that hinder the development of social skills Objectives Promoting emotional well-being through the arts and enabling young people to express themselves in creative ways To increase mental health awareness, to provide young people with knowledge and experience in stress management, mindfulness and self-awareness -Experiencing cultural diversity and promoting intercultural learning, increasing understanding and empathy among young people from different countries Developing self-confidence and social skills, encouraging young people to express themselves through art and making them feel comfortable in groups -Creating good practice examples for the further use of artistic activities in education and youth work
