Objectives

Our project aims to raise awareness among youth workers about disability and accessibility, strengthening their capacity to create inclusive and barrier-free public spaces. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project seeks to enhance youth workers' knowledge, skills, and awareness of accessibility standards, disability rights, and inclusive design, enabling them to integrate these topics into their youth work. It aims for youth workers to develop effective methods to support the participation of individuals with disabilities in social life and youth projects, conduct observations and evaluations in accessible tourism facilities and public spaces, and generate sustainable solutions in collaboration with local governments and the tourism sector. Throughout the project, participants will conduct field research in accessibility, join experiential trips with individuals with disabilities, develop empathy by experiencing different types of disabilities, and create innovative proposals through design thinking workshops. This youth mobility training course, which will last for seven nights and eight days, is planned to be held in Antalya, a city known as Turkey’s tourism capital. The project will also provide youth workers with practical knowledge and tools to address accessibility issues in their projects and daily work. Participants will learn how to choose suitable locations for youth projects, how to determine safe accommodation, transportation, and activity areas for individuals with disabilities, and what to consider when including different disability groups in their projects. Empathy workshops and activities such as Dialogue in the Dark will support these efforts, enabling youth workers to better understand the needs of individuals with disabilities. Our project aligns with Erasmus+ Youth Work priorities, including inclusion, diversity, digitalization, and environmental awareness, ensuring that youth workers become more informed and equipped individuals. By disseminating the project’s outcomes, we aim to increase accessibility in youth work and encourage the active participation of individuals with disabilities in social life. In the long term, the project will help youth workers become advocates for accessibility, raise awareness in this field, and contribute to the development of projects that promote accessibility at both local and international levels.
