Managing rural economic development is possible with local actors being sufficiently involved in economic life. One of the main reasons why the desired results cannot be achieved in rural development efforts in developing countries like Turkey is that young people cannot sufficiently enter economic life as entrepreneurs. In our country, where one-fourth of the population currently lives in rural areas and is employed in agriculture,it is very important for young people to be involved in entrepreneurial activities in rural areas. The concept of rural area is defined as “a place where few people live and is mostly in rural conditions”.There is no common definition for the concept of rural area at the EU level However, the OECD definition of rural area is also included in EU texts.According to this definition, places where the population density is below 150 people per square kilometer are defined as rural areas. In our country, rural area refers to the spatial size where individuals who cannot benefit sufficiently from all kinds of social security constitute the numerical majority in districts, villages and hamlets covering the provinces outside the settlements called big city centers.Entrepreneurship is defined as the ability to use business technique knowledge together with a personal value system and to gather resources that serve creative and innovative purposes to meet the needs and solve problems in business development. In other words, entrepreneurship is,in short,a process that includes starting a business, owning a business, developing and growing the business. Today, issues such as increasing poverty, hunger, unemployment, lack of education, health problems, dramatic migration movements, unprotected women and children and injustices in income distribution in rural areas have become a direct concern for every society and individual. In this sense, the United Nations, the World Bank, the EU,Voluntary Organizations and Governments have come to allocate more resources, information and time to carry out entrepreneurial activities more effectively and sustainably. Especially in developing countries such as Turkey, entrepreneurship efforts have gained momentum in the context of rural development in solving these problems. Because in Turkey, entrepreneurship is of particular importance due to the fact that one-fourth of the country's population lives in rural areas and the weight of agriculture in the country's economy. Sustainable growth means achieving economic growth in a balanced manner with environmental, social and economic factors. In other words,it is a type of growth that is carried out to meet the needs of today without endangering the needs of future generations. This approach also takes into account elements such as not harming the environment, using natural resources efficiently, and ensuring social equality and welfare. Sustainable growth does not only focus on economic success, but also prioritizes protecting the environment and social welfare. For example, investing in renewable energy sources, providing fair working conditions or ensuring development without disrupting the ecological balance are parts of sustainable growth. This concept expresses a longer-term and responsible growth approach in order to ensure that environmental and social factors grow in harmony with economic development. Participating organizations both work with young people and operate in areas defined as rural areas. For sustainable growth in rural areas, our main starting point is to increase the capacity of both institutional and human resources of youth organizations operating especially in rural areas. In this way, higher quality approaches will be presented to our main target groups, young people.Young people play an important role in this process because they are the leaders, entrepreneurs and social change pioneers of the future. The Joint Initiative for Sustainable Growth in Rural Areas aims to contribute to local, regional, national and transnational rural economic development and sustainable growth by promoting latent entrepreneurial talents among young people in Europe and to build the capacity of youth organizations to establish appropriate support mechanisms for young people at local level. Our goals are; -To develop and test an innovative Rural Youth Entrepreneurship Guide to increase young people's entrepreneurial skills and business start-up rates in rural areas, -To increase the capacity of rural youth organizations and youth workers to establish inclusive and appropriate support mechanisms for young people to establish and sustain their businesses at local level using innovative and creative online methodologies, -To play a facilitating role in mobilizing young people's existing potential, -To increase the awareness of local communities about rural youth entrepreneurship through awareness-raising activities and an online portal, -To facilitate the development and sustainability of more successful local businesses in the EU.
