Objectives

Since 1985, the ACCOORD association has been managing 22 sociocultural centers, neighborhood centers, an open-air space, 40 children's leisure centers, 17 teenage activity centers (11/15 years) in Nantes, and every year organizes around a hundred stays in France and abroad. The majority of these centers are located in QPV (“Quartiers Prioritaires de la Ville”, dis advantaged neighborhood). Within the sociocultural centers, 16-25 spaces with specialized activity animators welcome young people aged 16 to 25 and offer them a wide range of activities and projects. 5 of these centers, all located in QPV areas, have an employee dedicated to developing projects for and with local young people. To complement our day-to-day actions and promote access to European mobility for all, we want to offer young people in Nantes aged 18 to 21 the opportunity to build and take part in a European mobility project. The young people taking part in the project are from the Nantes metropolitan area, living in a disadvantaged neighborhood and/or in a precarious family home. They have never or rarely had the opportunity to travel in Europe, or even to leave the city of Nantes. Many of them feel remote from Europe and its institutions, a topic that didn't interest them at school and which they know little about. They need to travel, discover other cultures and meet people who live in Europe, to make it more tangible for them. Some young people have left their training courses and/or jobs and lack professional opportunities. Others are still finding their path. They need to step out of their comfort zone, in a gradually supervised way, to broaden their horizons, re-motivate themselves and discover new opportunities. They also need to develop new skills, such as planning and project management, to turn these opportunities into reality. These young people would never travel to Europe on their own; they have neither the financial means nor the necessary skill s and knowledge. They also lack self-confidence due to their lack of experience. Some of these young people have never lived on their own and lack autonomy. They need to open up to others, to different cultures and religions, to learn to live together and develop a sense of unity. To achieve this, young people need to be confronted with interculturality and comparison by meeting young people from different countries, so that they learn to question the mselves and adapt. This is what they need to become responsible adults and European citizens. In light of these needs, our objectives are as follows: 1) Promote the development of European citizenship and commitment to shared European values among young people in the Nantes metropolitan area One of ACCOORD's challenges is to raise awareness of the major issues facing our society on a daily basis: food and health, equality and living together, solidarity, digital technology, Europe and the international community, and the ecological transition. Above all, we want to raise awareness of the importance of being an active European citizen. To grasp this importance, younger generations need to experience what Europe and sustainable travel are all about. We want to give them the opportunity to work on issues that matter to them in another European country, to understand just how global the issues that affect us all are. Taking part in the great project that is Europe will enable them to realize the importance of voting, of taking part in democratic life and of getting involved in major issues such as ecology or peace between neighboring countries. This awareness will also come through organizing a trip that respects the environment, by choosing ecological or “green” means of transport, acti vities and accommodation. 2) Helping young people develop essential cross-disciplinary skills Welcoming 12,000 of Nantes' families on a daily basis, ACCOORD contributes to the development of young people's skills in an informal setting, through games, workshops, sports and outdoor activities, volunteer work and stays. Our aim is to offer a complementary experience to young people who have left school, so that they can develop the cross-disciplinary skills that are essential to their personal and professional lives: autonomy, communication, adaptability, teamwork, time and budget management.
