By implementing the DiscoverEU project into the lives of our selected youngsters, we seek to give them a chance that they do not have – to see the wider world and explore oneself outside of the comfort zone. By having difficult relationships with the environment, experiencing psychological, social, learning, financial difficulties, family issues, discrimination and many more – the exclusion that they experience in life deprives them of an opportunity to open up to the world. In turn, the youngsters become more radicalized and closed off, which limits them of a possibility to challenge unsustainable beliefs, improve their general skillset and reflect on the importance of it all. Financial barrier as well as the lack of knowledge on traveling are just few but very apparent issues that makes the youngsters in our practice feel handicapped to travel. By implementing this project we seek to have a chance to empower the young people to act and develop their social, sustainability, travel and many other important skills, which after the trip will continue to serve them in their daily lives and lessen the exclusion that they are experiencing. Empowering to act includes widening their general perspectives in life, knowledge on other cultures as well as on travel, confronting discriminatory beliefs. In turn, we believe it will make young people more sensible of the world and their place in it – it will help to make more sustainable decisions, such as becoming more aware of how discriminatory behavior affect others, forming quality connections, seeking education, job, or in general better opportunities in life.
