Youth Reboot is built for a world that doesn’t stand still. Young people are participating in faster, more creative, and more flexible ways, but youth organisations sometimes keep using models that were built for a different era. This project gives young people the space to rethink how involvement actually works and the power to redesign it. Over seven days in Malta, youth from Malta, Spain, Sweden, Estonia, and Croatia will tackle one sharp question: “What does participation need to look like to survive and stay real in a fast-changing world?” They’ll compare how involvement works across five countries. They’ll question how recognition systems reward some contributions and overlook others. They’ll reflect on lived experience, test new approaches, and co-create formats that give more young people a reason and a way to stay involved. This isn’t a project where youth are told what participation means. They’ll work in a structured but flexible process, with real roles and shared decisions. They’ll shape the questions, test answers, and take ownership of what’s worth bringing home. From a youth work perspective, Youth Reboot repositions young people as co-designers of systems that match how they live, connect, and contribute. It’s not about updating one activity, it’s about evolving how we engage people long-term. They’ll work through: - Systems thinking to identify where youth engagement breaks down - Creative thinking tools (like Edward de Bono’s methods) to reframe problems and invent better structures - Gamified design to test how recognition affects motivation and inclusion - Cross-cultural teamwork to pressure-test ideas in five very different contexts Project objectives: 1. Help young people critically assess how youth organisations include or exclude different kinds of participation 2. Explore new ways of contributing and belonging that reflect different personalities and lived realities 3. Compare participation cultures across countries, surfacing shared challenges and learning from contrast 4. Test gamified recognition systems that make youth involvement more visible, motivating, and long-lasting 5. Strengthen youth ownership by giving participants clear roles and responsibility before, during, and after the exchange Youth Reboot is here to test what’s next and give young people the thinking tools and peer space to help build it.
