Objectives

The project was designed to address specific needs that youth workers in the partner organizations identified from their experience with young people. Working with young people with fewer opportunities, they realised how, through artistic expression, they could reach out to those young people who were difficult to reach. Creativity-based programmes offered opportunities for young people, even those who struggle to express themselves, to explore their identities and be seen and listened to. This creative space, supported by experienced youth workers offered an opportunity for personal growth, and emotional and mental well-being. Artistic tools also supported youth workers in their own mental health journey. With this in mind, the partners identified a set of objectives that would support their work with young people and enhance the capacity of their organizations. A set of four key objectives were designed: 1. Integrate Creative Arts into Youth Development by equipping youth workers with skills to use artistic mediums such as painting, music, and storytelling to promote self-expression, emotional growth, and communication among young people. 2. Foster Emotional Resilience through Art by supporting youth workers in using art techniques and methods as tools to help young individuals explore their emotions, manage stress, deal with loneliness and build resilience. 3. Encourage Collaborative Artistic Projects by promoting group activities such as group painting creation and music collaborations that emphasize teamwork, community support, and shared achievements. 4. Develop Critical Thinking and Creativity by using artistic expression as a tool to engage youth in problem-solving, critical thinking, and exploring innovative solutions to challenges. Through these four primary objectives, this project supported the professional development of youth work by integrating diverse artistic methodologies as strategic tools for social inclusion, mental health, and personal development. Recognizing that other forms of communication such as writing and verbal communication can be a barrier for many young people, the project sought to equip practitioners with a "creative toolkit" to facilitate self-expression and build emotional resilience. Through a hands-on, nonformal training program, the project was designed to help participants master a variety of mediums including painting, drama, voice acting, music, sculpting with clay, comic-book storytelling, photography, and mandala creation. By implementing these activities, the project achieved its goal of empowering participants to create safer, more innovative, and more inclusive environments. Ultimately, the project provided these professionals with the practical skills needed to support the emotional well-being and holistic growth of young people across various educational and community platforms.
