Objectives

We are incredibly excited about the results of our first three ventures into Discover EU Inclusion and the opportunity to apply for Moving Feet Opening Minds which we hope will do what it says in the title - through - supporting young people in travelling for the first time and through this opportunity they will begin to see the opportunities Europe could hold for their future. Our organisation was founded to work with young people experiencing barriers in their lives, bringing other local organisations on this journey with us. We currently work with young people experiencing obstacles to inclusion due to social barriers, offending histories, mental ill-health or alternative sexual orientations. We are able to make many of our mainstream projects accessible to them. Creating equity for our youth with fewer opportunities, is our main motivation to deliver Moving Feet Opening Minds. Annually we choose a focus for 2025 our main focus was levelling up for youth in the criminal justice system, which is why we have included activities in this Discover EU Inclusion activity in our annual plan. Our main aim is the journey not the result, where we will take a groups of 5 young people including those from Reclassering and social formation collaborative programmes through the process of planning these learning journeys. The objectives of these projects is to allow a group of 5 young people to leave Aruba for 2-3 weeks whilst they visit another European country(ies). The projects will allow these groups of 5 young people and two/three accompanying youthworkers and peer mentors to 'feel' Europe to be immersed in the countries, cultures & lifestyles, of the places they visit. We hope exposure for the first time to another EU country will help them to feel more European, embracing EU values and discovering that Europe is accessible to them. We imagine these activities will raise aspirations, break down barriers and allow participants to realise there are many opportunities available to them through Erasmus+ ESC. Through this project we will support 5 x groups of 5 young people to embark on a vast array of different learning journeys they could never have imagined, that this participative experience will be a transforming moment in their lives where they will experience their first exposure to Europe. They will be equipped with firsthand knowledge of the counties they visit and be able to learn more about living in another country and the opportunities it can offer them for their future life choices. The projects will encourage intercultural dialogue we hope to arrange opportunities for both cultural and linguistic exchange as part of meeting another group of young people. Participants will be inspired in a field of activities they have chosen (different for different groups linked to their areas of interest). They will (possibly for the first time) be introduced to volunteering, first with a possible days local volunteering on Aruba which the team will create during the prep and planning where we will undertake a local volunteering day, then secondly in the host countries where we hope at least one day can be spent in a volunteering experience the group will select and arrange together. A further new experience for these young people, they will be responsible for the planning and preparation of their journey (both their personal and emotional journey and the physical journey they will embark on as a group). They will be supported but not led - taking responsibility for such an experience will be a huge opportunity for growth. The main objective we have is inspiring a vision and interest in young people to find out more about the EU and opportunities which may be accessible to them, to inspire an interest and confidence that this opportunity is available to them and help them develop the confidence, skills and competences needed to embark on such an experience, initially within our supported group, but finally alone should they continue this international travelling journey in other ways following our Discover EU inclusion projects. For the first time these young people will be responsible for deciding their own learning journey and identifying what they want to learn and how they can implement learning. It may be the first experience for some, that others consider value in what they achieve and their achievements are recognised. With this target group recognition is supremely important and we will recognise achievements throughout the planning and preparation phase, in the daily meetings and in the final celebration where we present YOUTHPASS certificates. We will also further emphasise the importance of this recognition when back in Aruba during the follow up and reintegration where we will encourage young people to capitalise on their learning journey and work with local organisations (specifically reclassering/KIA) to consider how we can further support young people to continue this learning journey.
