Objectives

The project has been designed in close collaboration with a group of young people in Trondheim who face various economic, social, and psychological challenges. Many have never had the opportunity to travel internationally, lack experience in independent planning, and need supportive guidance to overcome fears of traveling alone. Through meetings and preparatory exercises, the youth themselves identified their goals, dreams, and interests. They expressed a strong desire to explore Europe beyond Norway and Ukraine, encounter new cultures and people, broaden their horizons, strengthen self-confidence and social skills, practice English in authentic situations, and discover classical music and its role in European history. The project aims to provide young people with limited resources equal opportunities to participate in DiscoverEU and gain international mobility experience. It seeks to foster personal growth, confidence, and social skills through active engagement, reflection, and challenges within a safe and supportive framework. By combining travel with cultural, historical, and musical experiences, the project also promotes well-being and resilience. Participants will develop practical skills in travel planning, logistics, and digital literacy, gaining valuable experience in decision-making and independence. The pedagogical approach is practice-based: youth actively contribute to route planning, daily activities, and independent tasks, supported by two trusted adults, one with psychological and pedagogical expertise. A key element of the journey includes one to two days of self-directed exploration in a safe setting, providing hands-on experience in responsibility and autonomy. From a youth work perspective, the project creates an inclusive learning environment that balances guidance with meaningful challenges, promoting mastery, accountability, reflection, and social development. Young participants become co-creators of their learning journey, gaining experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and intercultural understanding, and building the confidence to take initiative and engage with the wider European community.
