Objectives

We want to undertake this project because we recognize an urgent need to provide young people with fewer opportunities for international experiences that significantly influence their personal, educational, and social development. Many young people facing financial limitations, psychological barriers, learning difficulties, or challenges with social integration are unable to participate in the DiscoverEU program on their own. Our project aims to level the playing field by creating two intensive mobilities designed to meet the diverse needs of participants. One route in Northern Europe is more physically and activity-demanding, intended for young people with greater resilience and endurance. In contrast, the second route in Central Europe is calmer, with longer stops, allowing young people to discover new places at a slower pace while maintaining comfort and a sense of security. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project focuses not only on the travel experience itself but above all on developing key competences that have a meaningful impact on the future lives of young people. Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen their social, communication, intercultural, organizational, and digital skills. At the same time, the project fosters self-esteem, confidence, responsibility, and a sense of agency by encouraging participants to engage actively in the activities. An essential element of the project involves participants in dissemination actions, such as creating informational materials (articles, photo reports, films, social media posts), leading information sessions and mini-conferences, and contributing to the preparation of the final report. In this way, young people practice reflecting on their newly acquired competences, sharing their experiences, and working in a team, which is an essential component of pedagogical work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project also promotes active citizenship, social inclusion, and integration of participants into new cultural environments. Young people will have the opportunity to experience cultural diversity, learn to communicate in foreign languages, and develop adaptive skills and resilience to challenges, all of which will directly impact their further education and professional life. All activities have been carefully designed to combine practical travel experiences with reflection on personal and social development, as well as intercultural learning. In doing so, the project not only enables young participants to travel on equal terms with their peers but also increases their educational and social opportunities, helping to reduce barriers and build openness, responsibility, and competencies essential for adult life.
