Today, young people grow up in a world of rapid digitalization, where the ability to use modern digital tools and think critically is essential for functioning both in education and in the labor market. The experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic have further highlighted the challenges related to limited access to mobility, non-formal education, and international contacts, particularly in regions where the lack of airports significantly hinders travel. This is why the main goal of our project is to create opportunities for the sustainable development of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, through active participation in journeys across Europe that combine learning digital skills, analytical abilities, critical thinking, and fact-checking with intercultural experience and active citizenship. The project also aims to strengthen the leadership skills of young leaders who will support participants in planning routes, completing challenges, and using artificial intelligence tools, which will simultaneously allow us to improve SIR’s methods and tools. Through practical tasks such as creating interactive travel routes, recording vlogs, generating postcards with experiences, and conducting ecological analyses, young people develop skills useful in the labor market while also increasing their environmental awareness. The journey itself will be designed as an active educational experience – participants will not only discover new places but will also be engaged in board games and creative tasks prepared by the leaders with AI support during the train journeys. This will strengthen group bonds, enhance the sense of safety, and develop cooperation. Through contact with local residents, guides, ecologists, and activists, young people will have the opportunity to learn about local perspectives, strengthen intercultural competencies, and develop civic attitudes, naturally deepening their sense of belonging to the European Union. The project also provides opportunities for those living in regions with limited transport accessibility – participants will be able to start their journey by train, using route planning and the support of leaders and our network of trusted partners, ensuring safety, guidance, and equal inclusion in European activities alongside peers from other regions. Thus, the project as a whole not only promotes the digital, social, and ecological development of young people, but also strengthens their sense of agency, active citizenship, and European belonging, while simultaneously contributing to the development of leadership competencies in the leaders and improving SIR’s practices in working with young people with fewer opportunities.
