Objectives

Valcea County is an area with picturesque landscapes, but also with major social challenges. Approximately 60% of the population lives in rural areas, where access to education, mobility and personal development opportunities is extremely limited. Young people in these communities face geographical and social isolation, reduced access to extracurricular activities and a general lack of self-confidence. A study conducted by World Vision Romania showed that many young people from rural areas have never left their villages, which significantly limits their future prospects. In addition, many depend on social assistance, without having successful role models to inspire them. In these conditions, access to international mobility through Erasmus+ or DiscoverEU is almost impossible for them, due to financial barriers and lack of information. "On The Move" directly addresses these problems, offering young people with limited opportunities access to the lifechanging European mobility experience. The project will allow them to develop independent living skills, increase their selfconfidence and build a European identity. Project objectives 1. Developing a sense of belonging and European identity for 20 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, over a period of 24 months Justification: Many of these young people have never had the opportunity to interact with other cultures or explore the diversity of Europe. The lack of exposure to international experiences leads to a limited perception of their own possibilities and a reduced sense of belonging to the European community. How the project responds: Young people will be exposed to new European cultures and traditions, learning to accept and understand diversity. They will participate in intercultural activities, discussion sessions and exchanges of experiences. They will reflect on their European identity and gain a sense of belonging to a wider community. Expected results: At least 70% of participants will report or increase their sense of European belonging. Each young person will participate in at least 3 intercultural activities during the project. 2. Development of organizational, planning and responsibility skills for 20 young people with fewer opportunities from Valcea County, over a period of 24 months Justification: Many young people from rural areas do not have the opportunity to make a major decision on their own, being used to depending on family or social assistance. This lack of autonomy affects their ability to plan their future and take initiatives. How the project responds: Participants will be actively involved in planning the itinerary, managing the budget and organizing activities. They will be given concrete responsibilities during the trip, learning to make quick decisions and adapt to unforeseen situations. Experiential learning methods will be used, in which young people will learn from the real challenges of the trip. Expected results: At least 80% of participants will improve their organizational and planning skills. All participants will be responsible for at least one stage of organizing the trip. 3. Raising awareness of environmental issues and promoting the use of sustainable means of transport Justification: In rural areas, young people are rarely exposed to the concept of sustainable mobility, and the impact of travel on the environment is not a major topic of interest. How the project responds: Participants will learn about the ecological impact of transport and explore sustainable ways of travel. They will be encouraged to use eco-friendly means of transport, reduce plastic consumption and participate in ecological actions. Digital applications will be used to calculate the carbon footprint and monitor the ecological impact. Expected results: At least 80% of participants will report or increase awareness of environmental issues. Each participant will adopt at least one sustainable practice during the trip. From the perspective of youth workers, "On The Move" is not only an opportunity for participants, but also a method through which we can reduce inequalities of opportunity in Valcea County. Creating a safe learning environment: Young people will benefit from mentoring sessions, practical activities and guided reflection, which will help them become aware of the skills they are acquiring. Developing autonomy and leadership: The project will allow participants to assume organizational roles and responsibility, giving them the confidence necessary to initiate their own projects in the future. Changing the perception of the community: Through the success of the participants, the project can inspire other young people and demonstrate that Erasmus+ opportunities are accessible and relevant for all.
