By implementing the "Discover.EU Inclusive" project, the Pro Roma Association aims to bring about a series of changes and benefits for young Roma, contributing to their social inclusion and personal development, in line with the Erasmus+ vision for a more open and accessible Europe for all. The Pro Roma Association believes that every young person deserves the chance to discover their potential, broaden their horizons, and feel part of a larger community. The project aims to break down the "invisible wall of barriers" (lack of opportunities, quality education, and life-changing experiences) faced by marginalized Roma youth. The aim is for young people to see with their own eyes that Europe is a "vibrant network of cultures, opportunities, and open-minded people." The objective is to break the cycle of limitations by showing young people that the world belongs to them, that it is worth exploring, and that they have the right to dream of a better future anywhere in Europe. The project aims to provide young people with the means to become central actors in their own journey of transformation. The main problems and needs addressed are: 1. Lack of mobility and non-formal education opportunities: many young Roma have never traveled outside their city or country due to a lack of resources, information, and support, which perpetuates a cycle of poverty and lack of aspirations. 2. Limited skills: limited access to digital education and opportunities to develop language skills (especially English) reduces their chances on the labor market and their ability to function in a modern society. 3. Low self-confidence and feelings of isolation: discrimination and prejudice lead to low self-esteem, lack of initiative, fear of the unknown, and reluctance to engage in new activities. 4. Stereotypes and prejudices: the project aims to combat stereotypes about the Roma community through concrete examples of capable and eager young Roma people. 5. Lack of knowledge about Europe and their role as European citizens: Europe is often an abstract idea; young people have no direct experience to understand what it means to be a European citizen. From a youth work perspective, the project's objectives are: 1. Improving access to European opportunities and developing key competences: the project offers an inclusive European mobility experience for 15 Roma participants, contributing to the development of digital, linguistic, intercultural, and resilience skills. 2. Strengthening self-confidence and a sense of European citizenship: the aim is to increase participants' self-esteem and autonomy in new situations, developing an active awareness of their belonging to the European space and their role as active European citizens. 3. Promoting social inclusion and combating stereotypes: the project facilitates a deeper understanding of European cultural diversity, including Roma heritage, contributing to the fight against prejudice. The project is directly linked to the Erasmus+ program's objectives of overcoming obstacles that prevent young people with fewer opportunities from participating in DiscoverEU. The focus is on intensive preparation (linguistic, digital, cultural) and continuous mentoring to provide Roma youth with equal opportunities and empower them to cope independently. This is "the promise that the DiscoverEU initiative will truly reach those for whom it was created, offering young Roma not just a train ticket, but a real chance for a transformative and fulfilling journey, on an equal footing with any other young European."
