Mental health disorders—particularly anxiety and depression—are major challenges for young Europeans, affecting emotional well-being, relationships, and academic success. Around 15.5% of youth in Europe are diagnosed with mental health conditions (OECD, 2025), with complaints rising sharply from 42% in 2017–18 to 52% in 2021–22 (OECD, 2024). The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened emotional distress, while nearly half of youth aged 15–24 face unmet mental health needs due to stigma, discrimination, and lack of access to care (Eurobarometer, 2023; WHO Europe, 2025). This is especially critical in Eastern and Southeastern Europe—including Serbia, North Macedonia, and Romania—where resources remain limited. The "Habitus Bonus" project aims to address these urgent issues by fostering personal growth, improving mental well-being, and strengthening intercultural understanding among youth from Austria, Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey, Spain, and Romania. It equips participants with practical tools for self-awareness and emotional resilience, bridging gaps in mental health support. Specific objectives of the project include: - To provide young people with practical skills to enhance self-awareness and emotional resilience, directly addressing rising levels of anxiety and depression. - To introduce mindfulness and meditation as accessible tools for stress management and mental health improvement. - To familiarize participants with the Erasmus+ programme, encouraging a shared understanding and appreciation of European values. - To develop intercultural dialogue and enhance teamwork skills by working in diverse international teams, reducing social isolation and promoting mutual understanding. - To raise awareness of mental health issues within local communities through ''Mind Matters'' follow-up events, helping dismantle stigma and barriers to care. - To encourage participants to define and pursue personal development goals using habit-building techniques, ensuring sustained personal growth and long-term mental health benefits. Through meditation sessions, interactive workshops, outdoor team-building activities, and structured self-reflection exercises, participants will establish positive habits, create personalized development plans, improve their mental health, and benefit from shared intercultural experiences. Ultimately, "Habitus Bonus" seeks to empower youth with the necessary skills and support to build healthier, more resilient, and cohesive communities.
