Objectives

The "Rediscover Rural" project aims to change the way young people perceive rural life by showing them its real potential. In many European countries, rural areas are losing young populations as they move to cities for education and work, often believing that urban life offers better opportunities. However, this movement creates problems both for those who leave and for those who stay. Young people who relocate to cities often face financial struggles, high living costs, and stress, while rural communities suffer from depopulation, leading to the decline of businesses, schools, and traditional skills. By bringing young people together in a rural setting, this project will challenge stereotypes, introduce them to inspiring young rural entrepreneurs, and give them hands-on experience of countryside life. Participants will explore how rural areas can provide not just a home, but a future full of possibilities. This project will show that rural areas can offer a modern, creative, and fulfilling way of life. And Rettenegg is the perfect village and venue for that. The main aim of the project is to help young people see that rural life is not outdated or limiting but full of beauty, traditions, and modern opportunities and to inspire them to appreciate, connect with, and consider rural areas as a great place to live and work. Project objectives are: To change young people's perception of rural life - By organizing interactive discussions and debates about stereotypes and myths regarding villages and rural living. To introduce participants to real opportunities in rural areas - By meeting at least 2 changemakers such as farmers, eco-entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and creative business owners who are successfully working in rural settingsn and are making rural life exciting. To explore and experience rural traditions, crafts, and customs - By offering minimum of 4 hands-on workshops in local crafts (such as pottery, weaving, and cooking or whats available to see and visit at that moment at the village) and learning about rural festivals and customs. To educate participants on eco-friendly living in rural areas - Through activities like recycling, upcycling, reusing, producing eco-products and learning about renewable energy solutions used in rural communities. To provide to participants Farm Life Experience – Through activities like visiting local farms, learning about sustainable agriculture, and even trying hands-on work. To help young people develop ideas for their future in rural areas - By hosting 2 brainstorming sessions on business ideas, remote work, tourism, and other career opportunities in rural settings. To promote mental and physical well-being through nature - by engaging participants in minimum 3 outdoor activities (hiking, mindfulness, eco-tourism).. To create a lasting impact through digital storytelling - by producing 1 final project video, at least 9 daily video vlogs, a photo exhibition, and a “Rural Newsletter” co-created by participants where participants will share their experiences and ideas with a wider audience. This project is not just about showing rural areas—it’s about making young people experience them firsthand. By the end of the exchange, participants will see rural life differently and understand that it is not a place to escape from, but a place full of potential and new opportunities.
