The Safe Spacers project aims to strengthen the capacities of youth workers, youth leaders, and decision makers to create safe and inclusive environments where young people can actively participate in community life and democratic processes. From a youth work practice perspective, the project seeks to provide professionals with concrete tools, non-formal methods, and intercultural experiences that can be directly applied in their daily work with young people. The main objectives are: to improve youth workers’ competences in facilitating safe spaces and inclusive activities that reach young people with fewer opportunities; to equip them with participatory leadership and project management skills that support youth-led initiatives; to foster intercultural dialogue and solidarity across diverse contexts; and to increase the recognition and innovation of youth work by embedding project outcomes into local structures such as youth councils, youth centers, and community initiatives. By achieving these objectives, Safe Spacers ensures that youth workers are empowered not only as facilitators but also as multipliers of democratic participation, enabling young people to have their voices heard, valued, and integrated into the social, cultural, and political life of their communities.
