'What about the youth - WAY' is a youth representative group of the social circus network Caravan. This group consists of 8 young people (aged 18 to 30) all from different countries, all active as students or teachers in their own circus school. They combine their knowledge to represent the youth's thoughts inside the network of Caravan. Some enthusiastic youth of the WAY group came together to write the youth exchange. They want to create an unforgettable experience for the youth they are representing. By bringing the youth together they want to create a feeling of belonging, to make them (the circus practicing youth) feel part of the international circus community. By bringing the youth together the WAY group will inspire them to be more engaged in the international community and also their own circus school. By investing in games, non-formal learning methods, reflective interventions and group discussions the youth actively are being encouraged to speak up and this benefits their emotional and social competences in an intercultural environment. The WAY has chosen safety within circus practices as the general theme of the youth exchange. They don’t have the incentive to create safety experts, but to create awareness of the different pillars of safety one encounters when practicing circus. The four pillars of safety are following: Prevention of injuries, first aid, mental health and rigging.
