Development of training coursesBridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divideCommunity development

Objectives

The rise of digital media and constant connectivity has reshaped how young people interact, often leading to a decline in empathy and deeper human connections. They face growing challenges in developing meaningful connections and understanding their place within a globalised world. In this context, YFU plays a crucial role in mobilising volunteers who can inspire and guide younger generations. To address these challenges, YFU has updated its educational goals to better equip young people for future challenges while aligning with the principles of Global Education (GE) and ultimately strengthening our contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU SDGs Strategy. Our key areas of focus include democratic culture and active citizenship, social inclusion and diversity, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, international human rights, and interpersonal skills development and leadership. This training course reflects our renewed commitment to these objectives, reinforcing YFU’s role as a leader in Global Education and Sustainable Development. Through intercultural education and active citizenship activities, we aim to bridge cultural divides and develop interpersonal skills. However, there is a pressing need to further deepen our volunteers' awareness of the emotional challenges faced by peers and the new generations embarking on intercultural exchange experiences. To address this, this training course prioritises emotional intelligence, empathy-driven and interpersonal skills, as well as leadership and mentorship, empowering our volunteers to become active citizens and drivers of positive change in their communities. We will provide them with the tools and skills to understand diverse perspectives, and inspire positive change, ensuring a lasting impact on the youth they mentor. Through experiential learning, we aim to prepare young volunteers for future roles while encouraging an inclusive environment for personal growth. This ensures both volunteers and the youth they engage with are empowered to contribute to a more empathetic and interconnected society. Our goal is to train 45 young educators who are already active in facilitation and training roles. We aim to empower them to significantly influence and shape future generations, thereby contributing to the overarching goals of the Erasmus+ programme. This project is driven by the urgent need to equip young leaders of society with the tools to navigate a complex world, advancing a more inclusive, understanding, and collaborative global community. The focus is on developing empathy-driven skills and emotional intelligence, enhancing personal growth and self-awareness, fostering a deeper understanding of cross-cultural dynamics, and, ultimately, connecting the global YFU community. While the immediate goal is to train 45 young educators, the project is designed with a much broader impact in mind: - We will create a toolkit of non-formal education activities, guidelines, and best practices based on the OECD PISA Global Competence Framework. It will be accessible online and shared across youth European networks. - We will encourage each participant to organise local or national activities upon their return, multiplying the impact of the training within their communities. In doing this, they will receive the support of our partner organisations We hope to nurture a sense of active citizenship throughout Europe, inspiring young people to become advocates for positive change in their communities. Specific objectives: • Improve the understanding and practical use of emotional intelligence, empathy-driven skills, communication, and intercultural education principles among youth, helping them better navigate the complexities of the global society. • Strengthen the skills of young educators in designing and implementing non-formal educational activities, based on the OECD PISA Global Competence Framework, to support the development of global competencies in youth. • Provide opportunities for dedicated youth workers to act as mentors, passing on their knowledge and skills to the younger generation, creating a continuous learning and empowerment process. • Support the building of connections across different generations, nationalities, cultures, contributing to a more inclusive and peaceful society by embracing respect for diversity. • Create high-quality educational materials that remain available for participants and other youth organisations and educators across Europe, extending the project’s reach and legacy.
