In a world where the average attention span of young people has dropped to just 8 seconds, and over 20% of European youth report moderate to severe difficulties in focusing and completing basic tasks, the issue of declining attention span has become a pressing challenge with far-reaching consequences for mental health, social engagement, and learning. Research shows that excessive screen time and social media use, averaged between 4.2 and 6.5 hours daily in partner countries, worsens this problem, contributing to fragmented attention, anxiety, loneliness, and reduced real-life social interaction. Despite this critical situation, many young people lack the practical tools and strategies to regain focus and enhance their well-being. The “Navigating the Minds of Youth” Youth Exchange aims to address this urgent need by equipping 42 young participants (ages 16–29) from 6 European countries (Bulgaria, Serbia, Turkiye, Italy, Poland and Romania) with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practical strategies to improve attention span, memory, focus, and concentration. Through interactive workshops, outdoor activities, and digital detox exercises, participants will develop tools to manage screen time effectively, strengthen social skills, and engage meaningfully in their communities while fostering personal resilience and mental well-being. Specific objectives: O1: Equip 42 young participants from 6 European countries with a comprehensive theoretical framework behind attention span, its negative effects and consequences, and ways of reducing it and evidence-based strategies for improving focus and mental well-being O2. Explore, cover, and apply at least 5 techniques, such as mindfulness, memory games, outdoor challenges, and digital detox exercises, to improve attention span, memory, focus, and concentration O3: Create and implement at least 3 methods and strategies to enhance social skills and communication while reducing screen time, social media usage, and distractions through diverse indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring at least 80% of participants demonstrate improved attention span, focus, and concentration, and social skills O4: Foster intercultural cooperation among the 42 participants from 6 countries, resulting in measurable growth in their understanding of cultural diversity, European values, and Erasmus+ opportunities through shared experiences and collaborative learning
