The findings highlight some of the challenges facing young people in relation to future careers in the age of Artificial Intelligence, and the need for continued efforts to prepare them for the changing labor market, to promote responsible and ethical use of technology, to bridge the digital divide, and to create a more inclusive and equal society. Among the problems are: a) Job displacement risks: According to a PwC study (2020), up to 30% of jobs in Europe could be automated by 2035, with lower-skilled and routine-based roles being most at risk. This creates uncertainty and fear among young people about their career prospects. b) Skills mismatch: The World Economic Forum (2023) estimates that 44% of workers’ skills will be disrupted within the next five years due to the rapid rise of AI and automation. Many young people worry that their current education will not equip them with the competences needed in future labor markets. c) Digital competence gap: A European Commission study (2020) found that 42% of EU citizens aged 16–74 lack basic digital skills. This digital divide risks leaving many young people behind, especially those from rural areas or disadvantaged backgrounds, who may not have equal access to training opportunities in AI and emerging technologies. The main goal of the youth exchange “Future Careers & AI: Preparing Young People for Tomorrow’s Job Market” is to raise awareness about AI and its impact on the future of work among young people from EU and EaP countries, and to create a culture of responsible, human-centered, and innovative use of technology while fostering intercultural dialogue and cooperation. Main objectives: • To enhance the participants’ knowledge and understanding of Artificial Intelligence and its role in transforming the job market, so they can make more informed career and educational choices. • To build digital confidence by helping young people feel more comfortable using AI tools in ways that support creativity, decision-making, and problem-solving rather than replacing them. • To develop critical thinking and ethical awareness, encouraging participants to reflect on the opportunities and risks of AI, including issues of privacy, bias, and inclusivity. • To prepare young people for the transition into the future job market, through workshops, simulations, and intercultural dialogue on new career paths, lifelong learning, and adaptability. • To encourage participants to take an active role in shaping their future careers by promoting equal access to opportunities, active participation in skill development, and leadership in using new technologies responsibly and creatively in their communities. • To promote cultural diversity, tolerance, cooperation, and mutual understanding among the participants, and to reflect on the role of AI in shaping cultural identities and social interactions. • To promote the Erasmus+ programme as a platform for non-formal education on future careers and digital transformation, and YouthPass as a certification and self-assessment tool. The whole project will be based on non-formal and informal methods of education, such as role-play, debates, workshops, future-scenario simulations, peer-to-peer exchanges, and collaborative projects.
