Objectives

The focus of this project is to raise awareness and empower young people in Europe in the areas of digital transformation, conscious communication, access to information resources, awareness of societal issues, and democratic participation. According to Eurostat's 2021 data, 81% of young people use social media, but this usage is often not conscious and safe. Pew Research Center data shows that only 45% of digital media users regularly adjust privacy settings, indicating potential risks to personal data. The project will provide Conscious Media Use and Security training through a Social Media Workshop aimed at young people. In the digital age, critical thinking and empathetic communication skills have become crucial. According to the OSCE report, there has been a 20% increase in cyberbullying cases among young people. UNESCO emphasizes the importance of critical thinking and media literacy skills in combating misleading information and news. The project will enhance young people's respect for diverse opinions and effective communication skills through Conscious Communication Exercises. Access to information is critical for equality and democracy. As part of the project, young people will learn to find reliable sources, critically examine information, and distinguish accurate information. A study by Stanford University indicates that 82% of students share online news headlines without paying attention, leading to the dissemination of false or misleading information. Measures will be taken in the project to provide democratic access to information. Low levels of awareness of societal issues and democratic participation have been identified. The project includes a section on "Building Awareness of Societal Issues," where young people will analyze societal problems, develop consciousness and empathy, and demonstrate an active attitude. In light of this data, the overall aim of the project is to enable young people to participate safely, consciously, and effectively in the digital world, develop into critical thinkers and empathetic communicators, and exhibit awareness of societal issues and an active, participatory attitude. This will enhance young people's societal participation, contribute to democratic processes, and enable them to effectively address challenges. The project is structured around three themes, with one specific objective for each theme. The themes and specific objectives are as follows. Theme 1: Social Media Workshop Specific Objective: To enhance participants' abilities to use social media as an effective source of information and communication tool, enabling them to better understand and express societal issues. Theme 2: Conscious Communication Exercises Specific Objective: To strengthen participants' critical thinking and empathetic communication skills, increasing their ability to respect diverse perspectives and enhancing their skills in conveying accurate and effective messages. Theme 3: Building Awareness of Societal Issues Specific Objective: To encourage participants to analyze societal problems more deeply, develop consciousness and empathy regarding these issues, and foster a more responsible and active attitude towards their communities.
