Objectives

Meeting in the Woods is a project that aims to raise awareness among a broad audience about the situation of forests in Europe and around the world through four performances. To this end, three youth groups from France, Poland and Germany will immerse themselves in different types of forests and engage in dialogue with experts. The thoughts and feelings that arise during this process will be transformed into an artistic form under professional guidance. At the end of each of the four encounters, this will result in a small performance that will be developed and performed in the forest. The project aims to teach young participants about forests and observe their condition, as they are a tangible example of human influence on nature and biodiversity. The central theme of forests focuses on the complex relationship between humans and nature. By visiting Europe's last primeval forest in Poland and exploring various forests in France and Germany, the young people gain direct insight into the challenges facing forests that are ‘managed’ by humans. They recognise the immense importance of this primeval forest as a model for the development of future forest projects aimed at restoring primeval forests – not only for the benefit of biodiversity and nature, but also for human well-being. Supplemented by scientific contributions, the young participants deepen their understanding, while testimonials from committed individuals who fight against deforestation and campaign for the protection of forests provide additional perspectives and concrete approaches for action. In this way, the commitment to a cause, the measures taken, and their effectiveness are highlighted in the hope of inspiring young people to get involved in their own meaningful way. At the same time, the artistic skills of the young people, especially in the areas of theatre and dance, are promoted, with the forest serving as a common thread that guides them through art, interculturality and engagement. Under the guidance of professional instructors, the young people deepen their acting and dancing skills in workshops that not only enrich their artistic creativity but also strengthen their personal skills, such as self-confidence and expressiveness. A central concern is to show young people how they can combine environmental issues with artistic creation by exploring questions about artistic approaches, the role of art in raising awareness and sustainable practices in artistic creation. Once participants have gained a comprehensive understanding of the current situation, the associated problems and possible solutions, they are encouraged to develop their own ideas and opinions and translate these into artistic content. As this is a participatory project, active exchange, constructive discussion and the joint development of ideas for theatre performances are essential, with a supportive environment being created to accompany this creative process.
