The main aim of the Wise Online, Well Offline (WOWO) project is to empower young people to navigate today’s digital environment in an active, ethical, and responsible way. In the context of youth exchanges, this means creating safe and inclusive learning spaces where young people can reflect on their own digital experiences, gain new competences, and translate awareness into meaningful action. Youth work, with its focus on non-formal education and intercultural dialogue, provides the ideal framework to address both the opportunities and the risks that young people face in the digital age. Through the project, we want to support young people not only in learning how to critically consume digital content, but also in becoming actors of change who can contribute to a healthier, more inclusive, and more democratic digital society. This requires equipping them with the ability to recognise disinformation, understand the influence of algorithms, and challenge stereotypes that are amplified online. At the same time, the project seeks to connect digital competences with offline well-being, helping participants to find balance, resilience, and creativity in their daily lives. The objectives of the project are therefore closely tied to the realities of young people’s experiences. We want to strengthen their critical thinking when engaging with online information, AI tools, and digital services. We want to promote digital citizenship as a set of values and behaviours rooted in responsibility, ethics, and inclusion. We also aim to raise awareness about the concept of the digital state and the ways in which citizens can actively and safely participate in it. A key ambition of WOWO is to build on the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, ensuring continuity by transforming the momentum of awareness into concrete practices in 2026. Beyond individual skills, the project will encourage intercultural dialogue by bringing together young people from different European countries and contexts to exchange practices and perspectives, and it will strengthen the network of youth organisations committed to promoting responsible digital participation across Europe.
