Objectives

The starting point of this project is the strong connection young people have with digital tools, which often remains limited to entertainment and social media interactions. While young people spend a large part of their day on their phones, computers, and social media platforms, they lack the experience and skills to use these tools in the fields of sustainability, environmental awareness, and social responsibility. According to the United Nations 2023 Environment and Digitalization Report, 65% of young people do not know how digital technologies can be used to address environmental issues. Eurostat data (2023) shows that 58% of young people in Europe have not participated in environmentally friendly digital campaigns. In Turkey, TÜİK reports indicate that 70% of young people find sustainability knowledge too technical and complex, making it difficult to adapt to their daily lives. From a youth work perspective, this project will demonstrate to young people that digital tools are not only instruments of entertainment but also powerful means for environmental awareness and social change. Most local initiatives and NGO activities remain limited to reports and technical presentations, which struggle to engage young people. Our project, however, will build on digital practices that young people are already familiar with—such as video production, social media campaigns, podcasts, graphic design, and mobile applications—thus ensuring their active and creative participation. In this way, young people will be able to disseminate environmentally friendly practices both at the individual and community levels. The overall aim of the project is to enable young people to use digital tools consciously and creatively in the field of sustainability, thereby enhancing their knowledge, awareness, and participation in environmental issues. In line with this aim, young people are expected to create change at both individual and collective levels, develop innovative ideas, and act with a sense of active citizenship. The specific objectives of the project are: 1. To develop participants’ digital literacy and raise their awareness of sustainability. This will enable young people to recognize risks such as misinformation, greenwashing, and information pollution. 2. To encourage young people to use digital tools (social media, short videos, graphic design, mobile applications, etc.) to promote and share environmentally friendly practices within their communities. 3. To support participants in using digital tools creatively and functionally to generate innovative solutions to environmental problems. To achieve these objectives, diverse and interactive activities will be implemented throughout the project. Participants will enhance their individual learning and produce collective outputs through group work, station-based learning methods, and creative workshops. For example, in the “Greenwashing Station”, false environmental campaigns will be analyzed; in the “EcoApp Challenge”, young people will design their own app ideas; and at the end of the project, “Visual Storytelling” will allow them to share their ideas on the project blog. In addition, cultural nights and group reflections will support participants in gaining new perspectives and developing a shared European identity. This project will not only provide young people with knowledge but will also empower them as social actors. After the project, participants will organize multiplier events in their own countries, reach wider audiences through social media posts, and make outputs accessible across Europe via the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform. Blog posts, short films, digital brochures, and podcast series produced during the project week will also make lasting contributions to this process. In short, this project will show young people how to use digital tools not just for consumption but for production and social transformation. They will learn how to access reliable information, distinguish misinformation, promote sustainable living, and take action within their own communities. Thus, individual awareness will merge with collective change, harnessing the power of digitalization for the benefit of the environment.
