Objectives

#B3: Bars Beyond Borders is designed for young people growing up in disadvantaged urban areas who often have limited access to international opportunities. With this Youth Exchange, we want to amplify their voices, encourage them to share their everyday experiences, and create a space where their realities can be acknowledged. By doing so, we aim to foster intercultural and social awareness, build solidarity among participants, and initiate a process that empowers them to become active citizens in their communities. Dreaming OPEnly has been working with Hip-Hop as an educational methodology for several years, through both Youth Exchanges and Training Courses. We are convinced of the unique potential Hip-Hop has to reach this target group, its strong connection to socio-political issues, and its effectiveness as a tool for self-empowerment and creative expression in non-formal education. Our work consistently aims to create safer, more meaningful learning environments where young people can practice non-violent communication, develop resilience, and grow through artistic collaboration. Hip-Hop is far more than a music genre; it is a multifaceted youth culture rooted in empowerment, solidarity, and social integration. Historically, it has been used as a medium to tell stories of empowerment, resistance and resilience, offering communities strength, comfort, and unity through creativity. With #B3, we want to highlight this positive essence of Hip-Hop and actively counter the harmful narratives of violence, sexism, and consumerism that too often dominate mainstream culture, particularly among youth from marginalised socio-economic backgrounds. Together with the participants, we will critically reflect on and deconstruct these negative messages while addressing broader issues such as exclusion, discrimination, racism, poverty, and frustration. Our goal is to revive the authentic spirit of Hip-Hop as a catalyst for change – enabling participants to use creativity as a pathway to empowerment, solidarity, and social justice. In this sense, #B3 is more than a project; it is a call to action. It offers young people the opportunity to share their perspectives and experiences through Hip-Hop’s main disciplines, which are: dance, graffiti, storytelling, and rap. In doing so, to understand how their voices can contribute to wider social transformation. Dreaming OPEnly strongly believes in the transformative power of art to bring about change, both individually and collectively. In today’s context, where younger generations face profound challenges, it is crucial to find creative solutions to shared crises. Through artistic expression, we aim to raise awareness of pressing social issues while also providing participants with a safe, constructive space to explore and engage with them. Objectives of the project 1. Empower young people by giving them the tools and encouragement to express themselves through art. 2. Use Hip-Hop culture as a reflective medium to analyse and deconstruct issues such as discrimination, racism, poverty, sexism, frustration, and social exclusion. 3. Raise awareness of the social and political power of artistic expression. 4. Bring together young people who share the same passion and guide them through a collaborative creative process. 5. Highlight opportunities for active citizenship and encourage participants to take an engaged role in society. 6. Support intercultural learning and foreign language development by providing a rich international exchange experience. 7. Promote European projects and EU values by showing how young people can benefit from, and contribute to, a shared European identity. 8. Promote and disseminate the Erasmus+ Program. 9. Give visibility to young people with diverse abilities, promoting inclusion and representation.
