The project “GreenTeens” addresses the growing challenges of excessive screen use, reduced outdoor activity and limited awareness of sustainable habits such as food waste reduction and responsible consumption among young people in Germany and Poland.Organizations in both countries observe that these patterns strongly affect young people’s well-being, resilience and everyday decision-making, while opportunities for structured outdoor and sustainability education remain limited. The idea for the project emerged directly from the selected participants and a survey that was carried out among the young people. The results clearly highlighted that this topic is both urgent and highly relevant for their age group, as many of them feel the negative effects of screen overuse, stress and a lack of meaningful connection with nature. At the same time, they expressed a strong interest in learning practical skills for sustainable living, outdoor activities and healthy lifestyle choices. This youth-led input confirmed the importance of addressing the issue now and shaped the project’s final design. Through two international youth exchanges, the project will bring together 32 young people and 4 youth leaders to learn and apply outdoor survival skills, “Leave No Trace” principles and practical green competences such as upcycling, eco-cooking and mindful food consumption. The objectives are: - To promote healthier and more balanced lifestyles by encouraging outdoor time, physical activity and reduced screen dependence. - To equip participants with practical green competences, including recycling, upcycling, eco-friendly cooking and responsible consumption. - To teach the “Leave No Trace” principles to foster respect and care for natural spaces. - To support participants’ mental well-being by creating opportunities for stress relief, improved focus and self-confidence in nature. - To empower youth to launch a youth-led European campaign, #LeaveNoTraceNation, inspiring peers across Europe to share sustainable outdoor practices. - To promote Erasmus+ as a powerful tool for personal development, intercultural dialogue and building future opportunities. Our aim is to show that environmental sustainability does not depend only on big organizations, but also on individual choices. We want participants to connect their experiences back to personal habits and emotions, encouraging them to see how even small actions in daily life can protect nature and make a real difference.
