Objectives

The aim of the youth exchange is to provide young people from Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, and Germany, who are actively involved on a voluntary basis in the international project "Travel Different for Future", with educational competencies in the context of non-formal education. Together, they will also develop new methods for the project's peer-to-peer educational work. Specifically, the goal is to become familiar with the method of simulation games (role-playing games), in which participants take on different roles with specific positions and represent various interests. This methodology enables complex and conflict-laden scenarios to be addressed in an educational setting. It also conveys fundamental aspects of democratic coexistence, such as the ability to adopt different perspectives, tolerance of ambiguity, and discourse competence. At first, the participants of the youth exchange will learn about the method itself and then become creative by developing their own simulation game on the topic of "Tourism & Sustainability". They will also receive practical tips on how to facilitate simulation games. The final version of the simulation game will represent a qualitative enhancement of the overall project and offer the participants new perspectives for continued, in-depth involvement. The participants of this youth exchange are already actively involved in the project on a voluntary basis. The young people from the four countries meet online every month to coordinate their activities and stay in touch. Being able to meet in person during the youth exchange is very motivating for them. It strengthens the international dimension of the overall project and allows for intensive exchange as well as the development of new project ideas. The participants gain a wide range of experiences, grow personally, and improve both their intercultural competencies and their ability to work in a team. They expand their capacity for social engagement. The program is based on the principles of non-formal education, as well as the approaches of intercultural learning and education for sustainable development.
