Objectives

The project ‘Upskilling Youth Work’ aims to increase youth workers' competencies with particular attention to the newcomers at youth work, working with young people locally and internationally. The consortium agreed that it is essential to provide youth workers opportunities to develop competency to adequately respond to young people's needs, support their active participation and offer them quality and engaging youth activities. Moreover, the consortium of nine youth organizations (Dasein, Hannibal Youth, Association Pilcrow, The Cave, AIDE, Narandžasti, Youth Awareness Netherlands, Academy of Success, CTTR Skopje) agrees that it is essential to work on the mental health of youth workers and prevent their burnout, especially as the youth workers involved in the organization are working with young people with fewer opportunities and challenging situations. Finally, the consortium agreed that it is important to provide youth workers an opportunity for reflection and critical evaluation of their performances as well as the opportunity to set new professional goals and challenges. Objectives of the project ‘Upskilling Youth Work’: -to introduce the Portfolio, the assessment tool of youth worker competencies created by the Council of Europe, to the participants and to increase their competence to use it for their development; -to create a space where participants can reflect on the realities of youth work in their organizations, communities and countries and the role of youth workers; -to identify challenges and issues concerning participants and look for possible solutions; -to provide the participants an opportunity to experience several tools and approaches to use for self-reflection and self development; -to address the issue of burnout and to introduce techniques preventing burnout of participants; -to support building a network between the participants and exchanging practices, information and trends related to the youth work; -to equip the participants with knowledge of the Erasmus + Programme and create a space for brainstorming ideas for future project proposals; -to prepare a worksheet including ten activities on competency development and share it within the consortium and beyond to provide participants not directly involved in the project an opportunity to develop their competencies; -to write a series of articles (minimum 15) addressing common challenges that youth workers face to provide them tips on how to deal with them; -to realize one follow-up event per participating country for a minimum of 12 participants to present the tools, practices and Portfolio, an assessment tool; -to create at least three new project proposals to continue providing youth workers with opportunities for self-care and self development.
