The "AI for Youth Work" project is designed as a direct response to the accelerated digital transformation, which is fundamentally reshaping the way young people communicate, learn, and interact with the world. While young people are digital natives, youth workers and volunteer coordinators often face a skills gap, risking a loss of relevance and effectiveness in their work. Inspired by the success of previous projects that addressed digitalization and volunteer engagement (such as "Let's go digital") and the urgent need to integrate emerging technologies into youth work, this project aims to take an essential step forward: to empower youth workers and volunteer coordinators to use the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) ethically and effectively. Needs analysis A quick analysis of trends shows that while AI tools are becoming widespreed, the non-profit sector, and especially the youth sector, lags behind in their adoption. Youth workers need specific training to understand not only how to use these tools, but also why and when to do so. They often feel overwhelmed by the pace of change and lack the necessary resources for self-training. Out of 10 partners involved in this project only two are using AI in theyr work but at a very low level. At the same time the Council of europe study "Automating Youth Work: youth workers views on AI" sais "There is limited understanding of what AI means in theoretical and practical terms in the European youth sector."(https://pjp-eu.coe.int/documents/42128013/116591216/AI_views+of+youth+workers.pdf/93ac326a-cf80-3fa4-c4e5-56ee4038a766?t=1682336763487) Having in mind that youth workers dedicate a significant amount of time to administrative tasks (planning, reporting, communication). AI can automate many of these processes, freeing up valuable time for direct interaction with young people. There is a clear need to learn how to use AI to optimize project management, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and the creation of educational content. Mean time traditional communication methods (e.g., long emails, formal Facebook posts) are losing their effectiveness. Today's youth are consumers of fast-paced, visual, and personalized content (vlogs, memes, interactive content). There is an urgent need for youth workers to learn to use AI tools to create communication materials and non-formal learning activities that resonate with the youth audience, thereby increasing their engagement. The practice of our partners shows that young people are exposed to AI daily, but often without a critical understanding of how it works, its algorithmic biases, the risks of misinformation (deepfakes), or its ethical implications. Youth workers have the responsibility to guide them, but they cannot do so effectively without having the necessary knowledge themselves. This because most resources on AI are geared towards the commercial sector. The youth workers need guides, best practices, and tools specifically adapted to their context, based on non-formal education and values such as inclusion and participation. Cooperation among 10 organizations from diverse cultural contexts will ensure the creation of relevant and transferable results at a European level. Project aim and objectives The main aim of the project is to increase the capacity of youth workers and volunteer coordinators from the 10 partner organizations to effectively and ethically integrate AI tools into their work, in order to enhance youth engagement and improve the quality and impact of youth activities. To achieve this aim, we have set the following specific objectives: For the training: O1: To equip 30 youth workers, volunteers and volunteer coordinators with the fundamental knowledge of AI and the practical skills to use a diverse range of AI tools for project management, content creation, and communication, during an 7-day training course. O2: To facilitate the practical application of AI skills in the daily work of the 10 partner organizations, through the implementation by participants of at least one pilot activity in their local communities during the period between the two mobilities. For the seminar O3: To create a collaborative space for 30 participants, during a 6-day seminar, to share best practices and challenges encountered in the pilot activities during the project O4: To develop one guide about how to use AI in youth work and volunteers coordination during the project. O5:To strengthen the European network of partner organizations and promote long-term cooperation in the field of digital innovation in youth work. This project respond first to the needs of the youth workers and volunteer coordinators from the partners to know more about AI and second respond to the general need of the youth sector who lack resources and learning oportunities about AI which have a veri big impact on their work due to the fact that AI develop very fast.
