Objectives

FACK e.V. has grown from 1 employee to 15+ in the past five years, and now engages 5,000+ young people annually. We have a growing pedagogy team. Therefore we approached trainers to co-develop a training on visual facilitation, at the request of our youth work team who have observed a training on this theme Young people across Europe are increasingly facing complex challenges: social exclusion, democratic backsliding, lack of participation opportunities, discrimination, and climate anxiety. Youth workers and educators play a crucial role in supporting young people to navigate these realities, to become active citizens, and to shape inclusive futures. However, traditional forms of communication in youth work often struggle to engage, empower, and mobilise young people effectively, especially those with fewer opportunities or language barriers. The idea for this project was born from the experiences of the Go Visual training in Germany, where some of the current partners took part. Participants were impressed by the potential of visual tools to engage diverse groups, and inspired to bring these methods into the field of youth activism and inclusion. They identified a strong need to make these practices more widely accessible for youth workers across Europe, to support the meaningful involvement of young people in shaping their realities and futures. Visual thinking and graphic facilitation offer powerful, accessible, and inclusive tools to respond to these challenges. Visual methods – such as sketchnoting, graphic recording, and participatory drawing – help to break down complex ideas, make invisible realities visible, and create shared spaces for dialogue, creativity, and action. They allow youth workers to make educational processes more engaging, to support activism, and to inspire collective imagination for a sustainable and inclusive future. Some statistics and numbers: -65% of the people are visual learners -Image is browsed 94% more often -Information that includes video and photo content is shared 40 times more often -Image processed by brains in 0.01sec. -75% of neurons are responsible for processing images The aim of Visuality: Visualising Reality and Designing the Future Together is to strengthen the capacities of youth workers and trainers in using analogue visual tools as instruments for youth activism, participation, and inclusion, thereby enabling them to empower young people to express their voices, co-create solutions, and take an active role in designing the future of their communities. This will empower them and improve the effectiveness and quality of the educational process and learning. This LTTC also helps to build a holistic and inclusive educational environment where young people are active participants in their own learning process, not just receivers. Our project Visuality: Visualising Reality and Designing the Future Together responds to the need to strengthen youth workers’ competences in using analogue visual tools as instruments for participation, activism, and empowerment. By equipping youth workers and trainers with visual facilitation skills, we aim to: - To increase awareness of the importance of using visual thinking tools in education and youth work apply them to youth work and training. - To learn how to stimulate critical thinking and creativity using visual thinking tools. - To discuss how visual thinking tools can contribute to social inclusion in education and youth work. - To empower youth workers to integrate visual thinking into their educational practices, making learning more inclusive and impactful. - To strengthen youth participation by providing young people with accessible tools to express ideas, co-create solutions and visualise the changes they want to see in their communities. Promote activism and civic engagement through creative methods that inspire collective action, solidarity and constructive dialogue. - To foster inclusion by reducing language barriers and enabling diverse groups (including those with fewer opportunities) to participate in youth activities and decision-making processes.
