Objectives

The project focuses on developing active citizens. Participants practice responsibility, decision-making, and the ability to influence their surroundings through reflection, debate, argumentation, and finding compromises. This strengthens their motivation to engage politically and in their local communities. At the same time, the project creates opportunities to meet and build relationships with young people from other countries, resulting in lasting friendships and intercultural understanding. These are the overall goals of what young people gain through the project: Intercultural understanding: Participants share their own culture and learn to listen respectfully to others through Cultural Nights, where food, music, games, and traditions are explored. Language skills: All communication takes place in English, which means participants support each other in expressing themselves, thereby strengthening both vocabulary and their ability to communicate in a foreign language. Sustainability and climate: Through workshops such as Reuse and Recycle and visits to the Reno Nord waste sorting facility, participants learn what they can do in their everyday lives for a greener future. Human rights: Through workshops such as What are Human Rights? participants gain knowledge about their own and others’ rights throughout history by means of roleplay, while also practicing taking a stand on their own rights. Confidence and responsibility: Participants take responsibility for selected activities such as Cultural Night and practical tasks, which strengthens their self-esteem, independence, and ability to succeed in new social and intercultural contexts. In the longer term, participants bring their experiences back to their local communities, share knowledge with peers, and inspire new activities, while partner organizations gain methods and experiences they can use in future youth sector work.
