By implementing this project, we aim to support and increase active youth participation in community life, especially considering the new community center model in Tõrva, where young people share spaces and activities with other community members. I work daily at the Ritsu Community Center, which combines a library, youth work, and cultural activities. I have noticed that the new environment feels unfamiliar to young people and adapting to it is challenging because previously, activities in the youth room were separate from other community events. The goal of the project is to encourage young people to actively contribute to community development, boost their self-confidence and civic awareness, and break the common perception that community work must always be financially compensated. We want to create an environment where young people from Estonia and Portugal can share experiences, learn to collaborate with different age groups, and appreciate voluntary work. From the perspective of youth work, our objective is to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people can discuss participation barriers, overcome them, and understand their role in the community. We also aim to develop young people’s social and intercultural skills, increasing their readiness to engage in both local and international activities.
