Objectives

We want to carry out this project because both minority and majority groups in Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, and Türkiye face challenges in building mutual understanding, leading to social divisions. In Estonia, for example, many young people from minority backgrounds, especially in the easternmost parts, feel disconnected from the wider society. Similarly, in Bulgaria, minority youth often struggle to express their cultural identity and feel excluded by the majority. In Romania, young people from ethnic minorities often face challenges due to linguistic and cultural differences, limited opportunities, and a lack of cross-cultural interaction. In Türkiye, young people from minority communities face barriers to education and public services, which makes it harder for them to feel fully integrated into society. At the same time, the majority youth in these countries often lack opportunities to interact with their minority peers, which can lead to stereotypes and misunderstandings. Without direct engagement, these divisions deepen, making it difficult for young people from different backgrounds to relate to one another. The broader goal of this project is to address both sides of this social divide: helping minority youth feel more included and valued, while also encouraging majority youth to question and challenge their biases. Through dialogue circles, storytelling workshops, and cultural exchanges, we aim to create spaces where young people can share their experiences, learn from each other, and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by both minority and majority groups. Ultimately, this project seeks to build a foundation for lasting social cohesion by fostering empathy, respect, and meaningful connections between diverse communities.
