The motivation for implementing this project comes from a deep need to support young people with moderate intellectual disabilities in their journey toward inclusion, independence, and meaningful participation in society. Despite the significant efforts of families, teachers, and rehabilitation specialists, this group of young people often remains on the margins of society, facing communication difficulties, socialization challenges, and limited access to personal development and employment opportunities. These barriers often result in low self-esteem, social isolation, and reduced motivation to pursue life goals. In our daily rehabilitation work, we have experienced both challenges and small but valuable successes brought by consistent support. For example, participants who previously struggled with even simple everyday tasks are now able to go shopping independently, communicate openly with peers, or express their opinions confidently. These seemingly small steps demonstrate significant progress and highlight the transformative power of dedicated guidance and structured activities. At the same time, they show how much more can and must be done to give these young people the opportunity to discover a broader sense of purpose and meaning in life. The main goal of the project is to increase the social inclusion and independence of young people with moderate intellectual disabilities. Many of them experience loneliness, excessive dependence on family members, and limited opportunities to participate in meaningful activities. Our project aims to create safe, stimulating, and inclusive environments where young people can develop social skills, acquire new competencies, and experience a sense of belonging. The project offers a structured program of activities that inspires, motivates, and guides participants toward greater independence and self-realization. We focus on social interaction, teamwork, creative self-expression, and work-related skills to broaden the horizons of young people and equip them with confidence and skills needed for employment and full participation in society. The specific objectives of the project from a youth work perspective are as follows: Strengthening social skills and adaptability: Provide opportunities to communicate with peers, collaborate in groups, and participate in community activities. This helps reduce social anxiety, build relationships, and foster teamwork skills. Promoting personal development and motivation: Offer participants new experiences and knowledge through creative workshops, practical sessions, and cultural events. These activities help them discover new interests and talents, motivating them to continue learning and developing. Developing work-related and everyday life skills: Teach time management, problem-solving, responsibility, and practical work skills. Small steps in these areas open the way to future employment and greater independence. Improving emotional well-being and quality of life: Create an environment of acceptance, encouragement, and enjoyment. Participants feel valued, motivated, and confident to contribute to joint activities. The rehabilitation team plays a central role in implementing the project, as they understand the needs of the target group and can provide both individual and group support. Families and community members are also involved to create a sustainable support network. The project helps young people appreciate the diversity and value of life, experiencing joy through everyday activities, friendships, and learning new skills. Through the project, participants understand that they are important, their voices matter, and they can influence their own lives and communities. Additionally, the project enhances participants’ employability, supports the transition from education to the labor market, and develops the social and practical skills necessary for independent living. It helps them gain courage, independence, and confidence, strengthening their motivation to engage in society and become active citizens. The project also aligns with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program, creating an inclusive environment where all young people, including those with special needs, can experience personal growth, develop motivation and self-confidence, and enjoy contributing to society. The ultimate goal is to awaken in young people an awareness of their potential, help them discover life opportunities, and establish a strong foundation for independence, active participation, and meaningful engagement in society.
