Objectives

We will implement Dive for Blue to transform young people's ecological concerns into measurable impact and lasting learning. From the perspective of working with young people, the project will assign roles of responsibility, provide experiential learning, and encourage continuous reflection so that participants move from being interested to taking action and then sharing their experiences. We will work in Elafonisos, focusing on Simos beach and the sensitive area near Pavlopetri, we will train mixed international teams in water safety and in the field, we will clean the seabed and the coast, record data using citizen science tools, translate it into stories for citizens, and translate it into policy proposals that the young people themselves will defend. Overall, we will pursue four interrelated goals. First, an environmental goal: to develop tangible green skills and leave a clean footprint on the island. To this end, we will organize training in autonomous diving with certified instructors, we will carry out underwater clean-ups, we will apply the gopping method to the sand for microplastics and cigarette butts, and we will aim to collect at least 200 kg of waste with full traceability through the municipality. The second learning objective is to cultivate basic skills through non-traditional methods. young people will learn field safety and teamwork, data recording and analysis through citizen science, digital storytelling through the Digital Dive workshop, creativity and circular economy through Upcycling the Sea, democratic participation through the Youth for Ocean Policy simulation, all progress will be recorded in learning diaries and Youthpass with specific examples from the field. Third social objective: to empower young people from different countries and less experienced participants to work as a team, we will share responsibilities among everyone, water and shore roles, sorting and weighing, coordination of citizen volunteers, a team of reporters for communication, intercultural evenings at sea to bring the team together and ensure that all voices are heard. Fourth democratic goal: to connect action with voice in the public sphere. The findings from the cleanups will support a short youth resolution for clean shores that will be presented at the Dive for Blue Festival and sent to local and European youth organizations. The implementation logic will be simple and demanding: I learn by doing, I measure what I do, I share what I learn. Every morning, the young people will set a small individual goal, such as stabilizing buoyancy in the shallow zone or improving sorting accuracy. Every afternoon, they will conduct a quick review, and every evening they will upload their weight and waste categories to the shared sheet and a photo story or short video to their digital portfolio explaining what they achieved and why it matters. At the same time, there will be a safe environment with first aid stations, surface supervisors, pair rules, gentle routes for beginners, and shore roles for those who do not enter the water, so that no one will remain a spectator. The project will be visible and useful beyond us because we will deliver tools that are ready to be replicated. The Youth and Ocean Protection e-book will bring together safety protocols, a litter guide, citizen science models, and communication scenarios, the final festival in Elafonisos will open up the results to residents and schools, the partners will organize public events in their countries and maintain a monthly flow of content that shows continuity. Our goal will not only be to clean up a coastline for a few days, it will be to give thirty-six young people the means, the language, and the confidence to organize actions, document data, and speak persuasively about solutions, so that the Elafonisos experience becomes a model that travels to neighborhoods, schools, and coastlines across Europe.
