Objectives

The main objective of this TC is to empower youth workers to become environmental ambassadors within their communities. By equipping them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills, we aim to strengthen their ability to raise awareness of environmental challenges, initiate local projects focused on sustainability, and inspire young people to adopt eco-friendly behaviors. The TC also seeks to address a key gap in YW, which is the lack of structured, NFE programs that focus on environmental advocacy. Through this initiative, we aspire to provide youth workers with innovative approaches and practical methods to promote sustainable living among young people. From a youth work practice perspective, this TC is designed to promote the use of non-formal education methods, like experiential learning, peer-to-peer exchanges, and TC-based activities. These methods have proven effective in fostering engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving among young people. The TC will encourage youth workers to incorporate these tools into their daily work with young people, helping them to convey complex issues like climate change and sustainability in a way that resonates with youth. One of our key objectives is to increase the capacity of youth workers to design and implement impactful environmental projects at the local level. This will be achieved through hands-on training and practical workshops, which will allow youth workers to develop action plans tailored to their communities. They will also gain skills in mobilizing local youth and stakeholders, which will be crucial for sustaining long-term environmental initiatives. The TC also aims to foster solidarity and inclusion by promoting shared European values like respect for the environment, active citizenship, and cooperation. By bringing together youth workers from diverse backgrounds and countries, we will facilitate cross-cultural learning and mutual exchange of experiences. This will broaden participants’ perspectives and create a stronger sense of European identity and unity in addressing global environmental challenges. Furthermore, we aim to promote soft skills development, like communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are essential for youth workers in their roles as community leaders. The TC will help participants develop environmental literacy, enabling them to better understand the scientific, social, and economic aspects of sustainability, and to communicate these ideas effectively to young people. Ultimately, we aim to contribute to the development of youth work practice by making environmental sustainability a more prominent theme in youth programs across Europe. By empowering youth workers with the right tools and knowledge, we aim to ensure that environmental education becomes an integral part of youth work, inspiring future generations to take action on climate change and protect their local ecosystems. The TC is designed to create a ripple effect, whereby youth workers will pass on their knowledge to the young people they work with, who will, in turn, inspire others to engage in environmental initiatives, leading to wider community impact and fostering a more sustainable future. These objectives are not isolated intentions but part of a coherent strategic plan that connects empowerment, methodology, and long-term capacity-building into one unified framework. By starting with the provision of concrete skills and tools for youth workers, the TC ensures that individual learning is directly translated into localized environmental projects. This micro-level action is deliberately linked to a broader European agenda through the use of non-formal education, which has been selected for its effectiveness and also for its transferability across diverse contexts. For example, experiential workshops feed directly into the development of action plans, which then align with follow-up dissemination efforts at local and transnational levels. Similarly, the emphasis on solidarity and European values is embedded as a structural pillar, guaranteeing that intercultural learning strengthens the sustainability dimension rather than standing apart from it. Thus, every component contributes to a roadmap where personal growth, organizational innovation, and European cooperation are interdependent. This unified approach guarantees continuity, avoids fragmentation, and ensures the TC generates both immediate and systemic impact.
