Purpose and Objectives of the Project Climate change is no longer a distant scenario but an everyday reality that affects our lives. Its consequences are already evident worldwide: devastating wildfires, prolonged heatwaves, extreme floods, droughts, melting ice, sea-level rise, and biodiversity loss. All these phenomena threaten not only the natural environment but also social cohesion, safety, health, and even the survival of human communities. Science warns that if global warming exceeds 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels, the consequences will be catastrophic and irreversible. Unfortunately, current trends show an increase of more than 4°C, which makes immediate action imperative. The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us how vulnerable we are to global ecological and health crises, which are closely linked to ecosystem destruction and biodiversity loss. In this context, the proposed training course has the general aim of empowering youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to act as multipliers and change agents in their communities. By participating, they will be able to inspire young people to take action against the climate crisis, adopting more sustainable lifestyles. Specific Objectives 1. Education on environment and climate Enable youth workers to understand the causes, consequences, and dimensions of climate change, as well as the scientific and policy responses required at global and local levels. 2. Development of creative strategies and actions Strengthen participants’ capacity to design and implement actions for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, using non-formal and experiential learning methods. 3. Exchange of good practices Provide opportunities for youth workers from different European countries to share pedagogical tools, practices, and experiences, thereby enriching their work with new ideas and approaches. 4. Strengthening responsibility and active participation Cultivate in participants a sense of individual and collective responsibility for environmental protection, encouraging them to take initiatives and transmit the need for action to young people. 5. Promoting sustainable lifestyles Encourage the adoption of practices aligned with the European Green Deal and the 2030 Agenda, such as: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, calculating and lowering ecological footprints, responsible consumption and waste reduction, recycling and re-use, biodiversity protection, supporting local and environmentally friendly products, reducing food miles, promoting clean seas and waters free from microplastics. From the Perspective of Youth Work Youth workers participating in the training will gain a holistic learning experience that includes: Clarifying concepts such as weather, climate, climate change, and extreme events. Understanding the greenhouse effect both as a natural process and as human-induced enhancement. Analyzing the consequences of climate change on both the natural and human environment. Reflecting on why people often fail to act, even when they are aware of the problem. Realizing the global dimension of the environmental crisis and the need for collective action. Strengthening their role as agents of change, transferring knowledge and attitudes to the young people in their communities. Through non-formal and experiential learning methods, the program will provide tools that foster creativity, critical thinking, cooperation, and action. European Added Value The project is directly connected with EU priorities, and in particular with: Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), the European Green Deal, and the EU Youth Strategy 2019–2027, which promotes young people’s engagement in shaping a sustainable future. Through transnational cooperation, participants will realize that environmental degradation knows no borders while acquiring competences and networks that will strengthen their work at local, national, and European levels. Conclusion Climate change is a challenge that requires immediate and collective action. Through this training course, youth workers will strengthen their knowledge, skills, and attitudes to inspire young people and communities to adopt more sustainable practices. The project will contribute to creating active and responsible citizens, promote European cooperation, and reinforce the role of youth work as a driver of social and environmental change.
