Objectives

With ThreadForward we want to do more than run a training; we want to spark a change in the way youth work connects creativity, sustainability, and inclusion. Our vision is to give youth workers the tools, confidence, and inspiration to weave these threads together in their daily practice, so that the young people they work with can imagine and build more sustainable and fair futures. At its heart, the project wants to achieve three things. First, to strengthen the capacities of youth workers by equipping them with innovative non-formal learning methods rooted in creativity and sustainability. We want youth workers to leave the project not only with new techniques—like upcycling textiles, using artistic expression, or designing playful learning sessions—but with a mindset that sees challenges as opportunities for creative solutions. Second, we want to create a strong European network of committed youth workers who share experiences, challenges, and solutions across borders. In times where youth work can feel isolated—whether in a rural Italian village, a Austrian community centre, or an urban neighbourhood in Athens—we want this project to build solidarity. By working and learning together, youth workers will realise that they are part of a wider European community committed to sustainability, participation, and inclusion. Third, we aim to inspire a shift in youth work practice towards greater environmental and social responsibility. Youth work is not just about supporting individual growth; it is about shaping communities. By integrating sustainability and creativity into their practice, youth workers will be able to influence young people to rethink consumption, value diversity, and take action for the environment. In this way, the project contributes not only to personal development but also to wider societal change. The specific objectives of ThreadForward are: – To provide youth workers with practical competences in creative upcycling, sustainable fashion, and artistic expression as tools for non-formal education. – To foster intercultural dialogue and peer learning among youth workers from Greece, Italy, Spain, and Austria creating a shared space of exchange and solidarity. – To promote inclusion by developing approaches that make creative and sustainable practices accessible to young people with fewer opportunities, whether due to social, cultural, or economic barriers. – To raise awareness of the environmental challenges linked to fast fashion and consumer culture, and to empower youth workers to address these issues with young people in engaging, hands-on ways. – To strengthen the recognition of youth work by producing visible outcomes—such as creative showcases, digital storytelling, and a practical toolkit—that can be shared with wider communities and networks. In short, what we want to achieve is a ripple effect: youth workers empowered with new skills and perspectives, organisations enriched with innovative methods, communities engaged with creative sustainability, and a European youth work sector that is stronger, more connected, and more future-oriented. ThreadForward is not only about learning for the moment; it is about planting seeds that will grow long after the project ends—in the workshops youth workers deliver, in the communities they serve, and in the young people who will carry these values forward.
