Our Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project, titled “In Pursuit of Hidden Water: Youth Movement to Reduce Water Footprints”, is an innovative youth work initiative aimed at raising awareness and empowering today’s youth on environmental responsibility and sustainable living. Focusing on a theme that is not widely known by the general public — “hidden water” consumption — but directly linked to environmental sustainability, our project aims to increase young people's knowledge, encourage behavioral changes, and guide them toward environmental advocacy. Young people are often unaware of the impact their daily consumption habits and global production processes have on water resources. This lack of awareness contributes to the deepening of global issues such as water scarcity and leads to young people becoming distanced from their active citizenship roles. Our project is designed to address these gaps and transform young people into leaders in sustainability. This project is directly aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ Youth Programme: enhancing personal development, social participation, intercultural understanding, and environmental awareness among youth. Through active participation, our project allows young people to learn by doing, take responsibility, and create change within their local environments. In this way, the project aims to create a transformative process in the field of youth work, both theoretically and practically. Our project objectives are: • To enable young individuals to gain detailed knowledge about hidden water usage in daily life and increase their awareness on this subject. (Objective 1) • To create in-depth awareness among youth about the environmental, social, and economic impacts of hidden water consumption, initiating a cognitive transformation and developing critical thinking skills. (Objective 2) • To encourage young people to make conscious choices about hidden water consumption, adopting water-saving habits, developing sustainable lifestyles, and becoming responsible individuals toward the environment. (Objective 3) • To equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement local and international micro-projects for the protection and efficient use of water resources, thereby creating social impact. (Objective 4) • To improve young people's key competences such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, and digital literacy through project activities. (Objective 5) • To create public awareness and contribute to water management policies by presenting project outputs to local decision-makers and sharing them with the public. (Objective 6) Each of these objectives is based on the fundamental principles of youth work and supports youth participation, initiative-taking, and creating change through non-formal learning. The project will empower young people to become not only knowledge receivers but also solution creators, change agents, and drivers of social awareness. Additionally, through intercultural interaction, the project will enable young participants to collaborate with peers from different countries, helping them internalize their European identity and global environmental responsibility more deeply. Our project is also structured to provide a replicable, scalable, and impactful model for organizations working in the field of youth. By fostering environmentally conscious, knowledgeable, and action-oriented young individuals, the project lays the foundation for long-term change at both local and international levels.
