The main topic of this Youth Exchange is educating youth and young adults about the issue of animal cruelty in today's society. Young people will learn about the different sectors of animal cruelty with a focus on their own country and in a European and global context. The mentioned different sectors include, amongst others, the Food-, Fashion/Clothes-, Cosmetical-, Pharmaceutical-, as well as Entertainment-Industry. The exchange is also designed to inform the participants about the enormous environmental impact that our exploitation of animals has and to promote solidarity for animals at the same time. After all we intend to not only focus on how our exploitation of animals is negatively affecting us but also them as the victims. The ultimate goal is to support Youngsters gain knowledge, education, and dialogue skills regarding these topics. To achieve this goal we intend on creating an environment that young people can discuss these issues in, provide them with important information, propose different perspectives and ideas and raise awareness about the importance of this topic. All this we plan on doing while promoting a respectful and constructive dialogue, since this project is created and proposed by young people that want to give room for peer learning, youth empowerment, and finding solutions for the main issue of the proposed project. The objectives of this mobility are: Tackle the systematic issue of animal injustice: In our project we want to break down the different factors of the different sectors of animal cruelty and unravel the systematic nature of this topic. We will provide the young participants with information and knowledge as well as tools (such as debate, intercultural dialogue etc) to be able to spread what they learn on this project. One of the main goals of this exchange is therefore to guide and encourage participants to create campaigns, and then further develop them at home. Through that we intend on spreading the societal debate especially amongst youngsters and to shift the focus on a more healthy and educated dialogue about the issue. This activity is also designed to provide useful skills for the participants' futures, as well as help them gain important intercultural experiences, such as working and living in an international environment. Educate youth about the general topic of animal cruelty in different sectors: With this exchange we intend to open a learning process within the participants and ourselves about the topic. The Youngsters will be given the opportunity to inform themselves about animal cruelty, and share their gained knowledge with other participants. It is also an important aspect to learn together to question the things we see online or in our daily life through social media and marketing, to be able to distinguish between facts and misleading portrayals, such as green washing. For this we prepare specific activities that foster the youth's critical thinking, in order to question the things they consume and to think independently. The development of knowledge and skills is therefore one of the main objectives of this Exchange. Educate and open debate about environmental impact of the animal product industry: The environmental aspect of the issue at hand is the one that has the most influence on us and is a major threat to our existence. After all, the animal product industry, especially the meat industry, is one of the biggest contributors to climate change. We believe it is important that youth are supported to talk about this. It is the intention of this project to do so by providing them with facts and statistics to open an educated debate about the issue. It is also a goal to give room for the participants to make their fears and frustrations about this topic heard, especially since climate change is one of the main worries amongst young people and a huge factor that contributes to a rising global frustration and a decline in faith in the future. We will reach these objectives by the end of the exchange through informal and non-formal learning methods such as debates, games and interactive workshops/seminars to ensure active participation. We also intend to create an even closer experience by inviting local animal rights activists, to gain some first hand input of the perspective of working in this field full time and being confronted with the reality of the issue. We also believe that this would nourish the solidarity that people have with animals. Learning from a person with direct experience, who can speak for animals as they know their suffering the most, would make it more accessible to empathise with animals. Furthermore, participants will continue spreading the awareness, and make useful steps towards equal animal rights, with their online campaigns, even after the end of the project.
