Objectives

Analog Territories is a youth exchange designed as a critical, situated and artistic response to the processes of transformation affecting rural territories across Europe. In the face of depopulation, industrial reconversion, extractive pressure, and the territorial impacts of the energy transition, the project proposes to bring together 24 young people from France, Portugal, Greece and Spain in the village of Obón (Cuencas Mineras, Aragón) to observe, document and collectively reflect on the landscape, memory and future of these territories. Through an intensive non-formal learning programme based on analog and pinhole photography, participants will explore themes such as territorial imbalance, climate justice, visual representation, and the right to imagine alternative models of development. From a youth work perspective, the project is designed as a horizontal, accessible and meaningful process, in which young people take the lead at every stage — from preparation to shared experience and follow-up. The methodological approach combines artistic expression, critical thinking, collective work and strong connection with the rural environment, while integrating tools such as Youthpass, self-assessment of competences and emotional care spaces. Project objectives: -To develop key competences linked to active citizenship, sustainability and artistic creation: critical thinking, environmental awareness, teamwork, intercultural communication, visual literacy and symbolic expression. -To promote the participation of young people with fewer opportunities, especially those facing geographical, educational or social barriers. At least 8 out of the 24 places will be allocated to these profiles, with personalised support, inclusive methods and culturally safe spaces for all identities. -To connect youth with the territory through analog and collaborative tools that allow them to observe, interpret and narrate the landscape from a slow, situated and committed perspective. In this context, photography is not a technical device, but a practice of listening, care and critical exposure. -To make visible rural realities that are often ignored or distorted, generating self-authored narratives based on lived experience and shared analysis among youth from diverse European backgrounds. The territory is not treated as a backdrop, but as a protagonist in the process. -To create and share cultural outputs with educational and multiplying value, such as a collective fanzine (digital and printed), a final exhibition in Obón and local exhibitions in each country, enabling young people to amplify their voices and open new spaces for community dialogue. -To strengthen the connection between youth and European programmes, supporting their access to further opportunities in training, mobility or leadership, while reinforcing local and transnational youth networks. Analog Territories directly addresses several key priorities of the Erasmus+ programme: inclusion and diversity, environmental sustainability, youth participation and intercultural dialogue. It also aligns with the European Youth Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Inclusive Societies), Goal 10 (A Green and Sustainable Europe), and Goal 11 (Youth Organisations and European Programmes accessible to all). With this project, we advocate for a Europe that listens to what happens at its margins, that values situated knowledge, and that ensures young people’s right to inhabit, narrate and transform the territories they belong to.
