Objectives

The project “Re-creating Identities: Recycled Art to Weave Inclusive Communities” is designed to tackle pressing social issues of discrimination and exclusion that disproportionately affect young people from migrant backgrounds and diverse socio-cultural contexts. From the perspective of youth work practice, our primary goal is to leverage the transformative power of non-formal education and artistic expression to foster a more inclusive and cohesive society. We intend to create a secure and dynamic intercultural space where 30 young individuals from Spain, Italy, and North Macedonia can engage in meaningful dialogue. This environment will allow them to share personal experiences, deconstruct stereotypes, and build a foundation of mutual respect and understanding. A central innovative element of our approach is the use of recycled art, or upcycling, as a core methodology. This is not merely an artistic choice but a profound pedagogical tool; it acts as a powerful metaphor demonstrating that what society often discards—be it materials or people—can be transformed into something of great value and beauty. Through this process, we aim to empower participants, particularly those with fewer opportunities, by boosting their self-confidence, validating their identities, and highlighting their potential as active agents of change in their communities. Furthermore, the project is structured to develop essential life skills and competencies aligned with the Youthpass framework. Participants will enhance their abilities in collaborative teamwork, creative problem-solving, intercultural communication, and project management. By connecting the fight against social discrimination with environmental consciousness, we also aim to instill a strong sense of ecological citizenship, reinforcing the idea that social justice and environmental sustainability are deeply interconnected.
