Objectives

The primary objective of "Rural Voices" is to empower rural youth across Europe to become informed, active, and sustained participants in democratic life, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued not only during election periods but continuously throughout civic processes. By targeting youth in rural contexts, who frequently face geographic isolation, limited access to information, socio-economic barriers, and fewer opportunities for political participation, the project seeks to address persistent gaps in civic engagement and foster long-term empowerment. The project emphasizes the transformative potential of youth work practice, combining non-formal education, participatory methodologies, peer-to-peer learning, and cross-cultural dialogue to create meaningful, inclusive, and practical learning experiences. Through structured youth exchanges, workshops, and digital initiatives, the project will equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate European institutions, understand the mechanisms of policy-making, and advocate effectively within their own communities. A key youth-led initiative is the "EUth Voices Lab", where participants will co-create guides, digital resources, and interactive tools designed to promote civic engagement specifically in rural contexts. This enables youth to research local realities, design practical strategies for community engagement, and produce outputs that can be replicated or adapted across different regions. By actively contributing to these outputs, participants develop leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while ensuring that the materials reflect the lived experiences of rural young people. Another central objective is to create a lasting network of rural youth across Europe, strengthening peer connections, fostering intercultural understanding, and promoting collaboration across diverse contexts. By engaging youth from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Iceland, the project encourages the exchange of perspectives, best practices, and locally-rooted solutions to shared challenges. This network will be supported through digital platforms, online toolkits, and structured follow-up activities, ensuring that participants remain connected, continue to share experiences, and co-create future initiatives. The youth-led outputs, including those from the "EUth Voices Lab", ensure that participants themselves are active agents in the creation, dissemination, and sustainability of knowledge, reflecting core youth work principles of empowerment, participation, and ownership. "Rural Voices" also seeks to integrate social, environmental, and community-oriented dimensions into youth engagement. By linking civic participation with sustainable rural development, ecological responsibility, and inclusive practices, participants learn to recognize the interdependence between active citizenship and the vitality of their communities. Youth work methodologies such as cooperative learning, peer mentoring, and experiential projects will enable participants to apply these insights practically, whether through local awareness campaigns, workshops in schools and community centers, or initiatives to foster civic dialogue in isolated areas. This holistic approach ensures that the project’s impact extends beyond individual learning, contributing to social cohesion, community resilience, and long-term civic engagement in rural areas. Finally, from a youth work perspective, "Rural Voices" aims to create mechanisms for reflection, evaluation, and sustained empowerment. Participants will not only develop practical tools and civic knowledge but will also be recognized as “Rural Ambassadors of Democracy,” providing them with formal acknowledgment of their achievements and reinforcing their agency. The project emphasizes continuous feedback, reflective practice, and collaborative planning, enabling young people to adapt their learning to real-life contexts, influence local decision-making, and contribute to the European civic space in meaningful ways. By combining knowledge acquisition, skill development, and practical application, including the outputs of the "EUth Voices Lab", our Rural Voices" project aspires to leave a lasting imprint on participants, their communities, and the wider European rural youth landscape, cultivating a generation of engaged, informed, and resilient young citizens.
