Objectives

CONTEXT: In order to overcome the systemic crises that are facing humanity and our planet, we propose an exchange of young people on CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE. The exchange aims to empower the voices of some of the planet’s greatest catalysts for a sustainable future: community-led initiatives. Often marginalised and rural, these communities tend to be left on the sidelines. What the exchange does is it emphasises the unique resources and histories of participants' bioregions, enabling them to leverage social innovation for regenerative proposals. The dialogue between the young people's aims to foster a network for mutual support and co-creation to aid the empowerment of these communities. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To facilitate the co-learning and capacity building between youth from rural and marginalised communities involved in community-led initiatives, enabling them to respond more regeneratively to systemic crises and contribute meaningfully to community and territorial resilience. 1. TRANSVERSAL OBJECTIVES: A. COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AND REGENERATIVE PRACTICES To achieve community resilience, youth will exchange on their respective adaptation challenges, and explore together regeneration practices so they can respond more responsibly to their local challenges. This will equip themselves with tools to design projects that regenerate, rather than merely sustain, their communities, fostering resilience and complexity. B. CO-LEARNING To facilitate understanding among participants from different countries who share similar challenges, this project aims to encourage cross-pollination of the youth's diverse experiences. This will enable them to recognize that local problems extend beyond their immediate communities, igniting civic engagement by placing their local efforts into a broader context. The objective is to facilitate the exchange of these different realities, helping participants identify common patterns and solutions. The project will also foster international networks of learning and support. 2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: A. PLACE-BASED BIOREGIONAL UNDERSTANDING Youth will gain a comprehensive understanding of their region’s cultural and territorial dimensions. This will help them appreciate the co-evolution of their communities and the land, revalue intangible heritage, and encourage holistic management for the restoration and regeneration of natural, cultural, and heritage spaces. B. LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES The project will empower youth to develop leadership capacities through participatory decision-making and experiential learning. It aims to position them as proactive actors in preserving and regenerating rural and marginalised territories, ensuring sustainable efforts grounded in community wisdom. INNOVATIVE METHODOLOGIES: 1. Transformative Teaching Methodology (TTM) and Peer to Peer (P2P). TTM and P2P will be used because they are very effective empowerment methodologies among young people. TTM includes techniques such as popular education, group problem solving, cooperative games and mind mapping, and P2P as ‘learn by doing’ learning, debates, and open spaces. 2. Planning and managing innovative projects. Youth leaders and facilitators will share project analysis and design tools that young people will take ownership of to design and implement their own projects in innovative ways. 3. Transnational Systemic Networks. Youth participants and partner organisations will engage in multiple theme-based and goal-oriented networking activities.
