Objectives

The main aim of this project is to raise awareness about the environmental inequalities caused by the “urban heat island effect” emerging in cities, and to contribute to the development of inclusive, fair, and sustainable urban environments with the participation of young people with social, economic, and geographical disadvantages. Our project aims to strengthen the concepts of environmental justice and climate justice at both local and international levels through youth workers and disadvantaged participants. The specific objectives of our project are determined as follows: Developing Awareness on Heat Island Effect and Urban Inequalities: To ensure that participants gain knowledge about the heat island effect and its unequal impacts on social groups; focusing especially on the challenges faced by disadvantaged groups such as low-income, elderly, disabled, and migrant people. Strengthening Skills for Equitable Urban Planning: To encourage youth workers and participants to design more inclusive cities by taking into account the principles of justice and equality in urban planning processes. Empowerment and Active Participation of Disadvantaged Participants: To support participants with social, economic, and geographical disadvantages in increasing their knowledge, skills, and self-confidence, enabling them to effectively advocate in the face of environmental problems. Increasing the Capacity of Youth Workers: To provide youth workers with theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of environmental justice, climate change, and inclusive youth work throughout the project, enabling the partner organisations to implement more innovative and effective activities. International Cooperation and Good Practice Sharing: To ensure the sustainability of the methods and results developed in the project by exchanging experiences and knowledge among partner organisations from Türkiye, Spain, Macedonia, Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria. Dissemination of Results and Creation of Sustainable Impact: To share the outputs and achievements emerging at the end of the project not only with the project partners and participants but also with the wider youth work network and society, thereby creating long-term effects. Our project will be a strong step towards equipping both participants and youth workers with knowledge and skills based on environmental justice, and increasing local awareness and action capacity against climate change. In this way, it will be possible for youth actors from different countries to work together to develop local solutions to a global issue and to support sustainable and inclusive urban lives.
