Objectives

The project “PedalEU 2 – Learning by Cycling” (PLC) aims to address several needs of European youth through non-formal education and active mobility, with the intention of generating social change and an improvement in the quality of life. The main motivation of the project is to offer young people innovative educational experiences that combine active mobility, sustainability, social inclusion, and connection with the territory. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project responds to the need to counteract youth sedentarism and inactive lifestyles. Furthermore, it aims to offer active methodologies in non-formal education that promote autonomy, European citizenship, and youth participation. The seven organizations involved in this project want to address the disconnection that exists between young people and their natural and cultural environment and promote the use of the bicycle as an inclusive, democratic, and participatory tool. The project seeks to be an experiential and non-formal learning space where young people and educators develop key competences through the direct practice of planning and executing a multi-day cycling trip. The main objectives of PLC, focused on improving the quality of youth work, are: Empower youth workers, educators, and young people to use the bicycle as an innovative pedagogical tool. Implement active methodologies that include non-formal education as the central axis and favor experiential learning ("learning by cycling"), active participation, and youth empowerment. Foster active mobility, healthy living, and environmental sustainability among youth. Connect with the natural and cultural environment, designing itineraries that allow participants to explore and value their local surroundings, strengthening their cultural identity and environmental awareness. Develop youth autonomy and active participation in their communities, fostering a sense of belonging to the European Union. Create international collaboration networks to exchange good practices and jointly develop innovative educational methodologies. Ensure participants can transfer these methodologies to their home countries, multiplying the project's impact and contributing to a greener, more inclusive, and participatory Europe.
