Objectives

The aim of the "Decode project" is to equip youth workers with a practical, repeatable method to turn young people’s ideas into concrete community actions. Using Design Thinking for Community Development (empathise-define-ideate-prototype-test), the project strengthens everyday youth-work practice in inclusion, participation, facilitation, mentoring, and evaluation. From rural/peripheral areas to urban hubs across Spain, Armenia, Czechia, Greece, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, Slovakia and Serbia, partners face the same gap: youth workers can mobilise interest but need structured, low-cost tools to move from motivation to implementation. What we want to achieve (from the perspective of youth work practice): Equip youth workers with practical design thinking tools they can immediately use with young people (persona creation, peer interviews, problem tree analysis, “How might we” reframing, brainstorming with “Yes, and…”, SWOT sprint, prototyping, peer testing). -Strengthen facilitation, creativity, problem-solving, and evaluation competences through non-formal methods (World Café peer review, focus-group testing, town-hall sharing, reflective tools like “My Learning Backpack”). -Co-create a set of prototype project ideas addressing locally identified challenges, each accompanied by a basic implementation plan (stakeholders, resources, first steps, risks/mitigation). -Produce transferable outputs for the field: a concise DT Toolkit for Youth Work (session plans, templates, checklists) and short case notes from the prototypes to inspire other organisations. -Build a durable European peer network of nine organisations to continue exchanging methods, mentoring local follow-ups, and collaborating on future Erasmus+ actions. -Advance Erasmus+ priorities in inclusion, participation, innovation, and community engagement by ensuring methods are accessible and adaptable to young people with fewer opportunities. Objectives of the project are: -Introduce and practise the full design thinking cycle as an everyday youth work tool. -Enhance facilitation, creativity, and problem-solving skills relevant to mixed-ability, intercultural groups. -Develop and test at least five prototype solutions tied to real community needs identified by participants. -Create a practical DT Toolkit for Youth Work and an action-planning template to support local follow-up. -Strengthen cooperation among nine countries, enabling transfer of practices between different contexts. -Support recognition of learning via Youthpass and promote sustained application through partner action plans. By equipping 27 youth workers with concrete, user-centred methods and by producing prototypes, plans, and a shared toolkit, the project ensures impact beyond the residential course. Partners will return home able to run design-thinking cycles with young people, multiply the approach inside their organisations, and spark meaningful, sustainable community actions.
