Our goal is to implement an Erasmus+ youth exchange where young people learn about online safety and the impacts of digitalization by creating a documentary film together. The theme was chosen by the young participants themselves, as digitalization increasingly shapes their daily lives, both at school and during free time. Young people face constant new challenges online, such as scams, hate speech, the influence of algorithms, fake news, and deepfakes. At the same time, digital skills are becoming ever more essential for future studies and working life. Although young people are often considered digital natives, there are many misconceptions about their actual skills. The objectives of our project from the perspective of youth work are: To increase young people’s digital skills (e.g. understanding algorithms, digital footprint, environmentally responsible digital use, cybersecurity, and responsible content creation). To strengthen critical thinking and media literacy, so that young people can identify and deal with online risks such as scams and deepfakes. To support young people’s personal and social growth in an international group, learning cooperation, empathy, and intercultural understanding. To promote creativity and self-expression through documentary filmmaking. To strengthen entrepreneurial skills and initiative through planning and implementing the project, thus improving employability. To increase environmental awareness through digital carbon footprint and nature conservation activities. To compensate the negative impact on nature by purchasing emission credits and doing environmental work To support non-formal learning and self-reflection using YouthPass. To boost young people’s self-esteem, sense of achievement, and initiative. Through this project, young people will have the opportunity to learn together with peers from different countries, share experiences and perspectives, and develop skills needed in both the digital and physical world. Documentary filmmaking serves as both a learning tool and a concrete outcome, allowing young people to share what they have learned with a wider audience. The project name, Scamdrama, combines the words scam and drama: first, participants learn about the dangers of digitalization, and at the end, they create a documentary film on the topic.
